Stuck in the middle of an update/unlock
I was following the 4-page instructions posted on modmyiphone.com and managed to get to the end of step 2 without problem with my iphone virginized and updated to 1.1.1. Then modmyiphone went down and I couldnt load the last two steps, to jailbreak and install anysim. so I tried to keep going by following the simpler instructions here
it seemed to go ok and independence said that anysim is installed, but after restarting my iphone there is still no anysim on it. and the iphone still says incorrect sim too. what can i do now?! help will be so appreciated!!!!

Ok a bit more information... when the phone is connected to independence, independence says Connected to iphone.Firmware1.1.1.Activated.AFC connection.jailbroken
which seems to show that my phone is "normal" and activated. When I try to install anysim in the customize tab, it looks like it was installed (anysim will be showing in the application/user folder. However it would not show up on springboard. I tried to install apptap using the same method (via customize in independence) and again the same thing happened. Independence said it was installed but it doesnt show up on springboard. In both cases I can still remove the apps using independence. Other than this everything else seems to be OK (my IMEI is the same as when it was 1.0.2, modem firmware is 04.01.13_G). I am really stuck now...

As an act of desperation I opened iTunes and immediately I was greeted by the set up your iphone page where u r given the option to set up as a new iphone or restore from my previous iphone. I am too scared to do this though... anyway would it make any difference?
BTW all my contacts, calendar, mail, sms are still on the iphone but all the music and videos are gone...

Sounds like springpatch was not installed. Therefore your applicaton does not show up in springboard.
If at first you don't succeed, don't try skydiving

That's normal. Restore will put your music and your videos back.

how do i install springpatch? i didnt see it mentioned in any of the guides... also there are still three empty spots next to the itunes wifi store...
OK just found out something else that is weird... even though independence indicates that SSH is installed, I just found out that I can't connect using cyber duck (no problem before updating to 1.1.1). I am using the same IP, and the 1.1.1 username and password (mobile, alpine). Mmmmmm what does this mean? That independence is somehow confused and SSH was never installed?

The latest version of independence should take care of the springpatch. I would guess it is in their package content (right click on independence and see if you can find it).
Once you find it you will need to do this command:
scp springpatch root@[IPHONE IP]:/usr/bin
As far as not being able to connect with cyberduck you might have to clear the known hosts.
In terminal: rm -f ~/.ssh/known_hosts
Also don't use mobile but use root and alpine.
Hope this helps.

Tried looking for springpatch in the package content but didn't find it. But now i can SSH into iphone! Thanks! I tried installing anysim again and I use cyberduck to see if anysim is in there somewhere just not showing up in springboard. If anysim is supposed to be inside the applications folder then it is not on my iphone... so why is independence not installing it for me? Still confused...

ooops I stand corrected. anysim is on my iphone. it is in the application folder, it didnt show up before because I didn't hit "refresh". Duh!
Ok so now i know anysim is installed but not showing up... probably because of the springpatch issue... anyone has any idea where i can download it and how i can install it?

Did you log in as root ? If you used the latest iNdependence (x.x.5) springpatch is automatic. Did you shut the phone off and restart ?
