Default stock iPhone Bricked by FW 1.1.1

I tried to do the update to FW 1.1.1 this morning, as I have an ATT activated iPhone.. It has not been hacked in any way.

My phone failed to update and gave unknown error 1602 in iTunes.

My phone displays the gold triangle and wants me to connect to iTunes, which detects it and wants to Update my iPhone..

I already trashed iTunes at the instruction of the ATT store rep, who told me to call apple. I reinstalled iTunes after downloading it from apple, and my iPhone still fails to update.

I have been on hold with Apple reps for the past hour.. and have already been transferred twice..

it seems the people on the phone at Apple have never heard of this problem, at least the first guy with an Indian accent, and the second guy with the Aussie accent.. Im waiting for the next one to tell me how to get my iPhone back..

Unless you have evidence in the way of photos and video that the phone was unhacked, Apple will NOT help you. Welcome to Apple. Guilty until proven innocent.

If you a near an Apple store take it to the genius bar. They should be able to prove that you didn't hack. If you say you didn't do it they have no choice to believe unless they can prove otherwise.

    My iPhone is Fixed!

after 1 hour and 45 minutes on the phone to apple a very nice man named Scott, from Canada, told me to trash the software updates from my iPhone Software Updates folder.

I then was able to update my iPhone successfully to 1.1.1, and if I had wanted to, I could have instead updated to 1.0.2, which I still have..

but.. Scott tells me that if I were to now trash 1.1.1 and replace it with 1.0.2, it wont work..

    anyway
    Problem solved

I did not have to prove anything to Apple, they already had me in their database as the buyer of an iPhone.. that, and my phone number, and confirmation of my email address under which I registered my phone, was all that was needed..

    thanks for witnessing with me

Glad your up and running again. I was actually just being sarcastic but based on the way some people have been treated by Apple, it would not surprise me if they demanded proof when bricked phones come in.
