Still trying to emulate problems (Ziphone 3.0)
OK, first and foremost... I'm not trying to prove that Ziphone is safe to use, this is just for my education and amusement. :hehehe: I'm trying to emulate these problems so I can solve them. (I like troubleshooting
) Maybe this will help solve people with issues after using Ziphone so they can reverse the process and use another unlocking software.
I'm not screwing it up deliberately of course (by choosing wifi fix, or unplugging the phone while it's running)... But I'm very curious on the problems that I have read for folks who have used Ziphone (greyed out wifi etc). Although it's unconfirmed that they are using 3.0 version.
I've even tried upgrading the BL to 4.6 using Bootneuter... then ran Ziphone again where is downgrades the BL to 3.6. I could not emulate "greyed out wifi".
I really appreciate members who have helped me understand why Ziphone is "dangerous" (thanks )law(
), but I need more explanation on this:
# ZiPhone copies the 2-pass boot method used by iLiberty+, but performs the dangerous task of flashing during the first pass. The 2nd pass is used only for application install.
What process exactly is the flashing during the first pass? Is it the flashing of the BL when it's downgrading? Or is it the flashing of large zip files to the ramdisk (32mb) then extracting it there? (I'm new at this, so if this doesn't make sense, please correct me.)
Doesn't iLiberty+ ALSO installs applications on 2nd pass?
# Due to the technique used in booting the customized ramdisk, the memory will corrupt if you try to allocate a lot of memory during the operations. The ramdisk is disintegrating underneath, and corrupts the very data that is being flashed.
To my understading... this is dangerous during the process right? Once it's done and successful, it's OK?
This is my rundown of the process using any Unlocking software:
Jailbreak - It's done so you can have 3rd party apps
Activate - It's done so you can access native apps incl phone & sms
Unlock - It's done so you can use ang GSM sim card
Which part of these is dangerous when using Ziphone 3.0? Aside from downgrading the BL... cause you can disable this feature.
I want to know this because I've used Ziphone 3.0 and iLiberty+ 1.3.0 on the same iPhone numerous times to see if anything goes wrong... I can reverse it and re-do the process. I've been successful so far.
OK I also know that Zibri's a jerk...etc, I think if we put that thought aside for a moment I can shed some light in this.
And please... no "All Ziphone processes are dangerous" comments, cause I have tried to emulate the problems by using it numerous times and I have not had a single problem. :hehehe:
Thank you for putting up with my curiosity.

You're not trying to prove that ziphone is safe to use. So are you trying to prove that it is unsafe to use?
No one here is deliberately trying to screw up the phone ... Your curiosity is understandable ....
What do you mean that it's unconfirmed ?. Most of those suffering wifi problem did use ziphone. I'm not so sure about version number but I believe it is after 2.5/2.6
I've even tried upgrading the BL to 4.6 using Bootneuter... then ran Ziphone again where is downgrades the BL to 3.6. I could not emulate "greyed out wifi".
There isn't a way to "emulate" greyed wifi. It's either you have or you don't [/quote]

More information on the pass-1 and pass-2 can be found on George Zhu's website.
Doesn't iLiberty+ ALSO installs applications on 2nd pass?
To my understading... this is dangerous during the process right? Once it's done and successful, it's OK?
Second pass is safer because you have memory management.
Read George Zhu's site.

JB - right
Activate - so you can use the phone.
Unlock - right
With ziphone, IMHO, I think it's how the payloads are executed is dangerous.
BTW, if you start messing around with BB and BL then there's always a risk. It's your choice to make a decision in choosing the tool to use and to minimize that risk

You are entitle to think and believe that ziphone is not dangerous.

You're not trying to prove that ziphone is safe to use. So are you trying to prove that it is unsafe to use?
Well in a way.... yes, to myself cause I haven't encountered problems while using it.
What do you mean that it's unconfirmed ?
I have not read any solid post that they had "greyed wifi" after using Ziphone 3.0
There isn't a way to "emulate" greyed wifi. It's either you have or you don't
Are you saying then, that it's not a Ziphone 3.0 related issue?
I'm trying to emulate it by restoring and running Ziphone 3.0 again.
Thank you for your reply and answering some of my questions... much appreciated!

Maybe because most people use ziphone?
Fendushi,
If you are trying to brick your phone, why limit yourself to ziphone? That's just silly. If you are genuinely curious, why aren't you trying to gray out your wifi with other tools.

@fendushi,
The greyed wifi fix is a hit and miss process. Some have reported success using DevTeam swifi fix but that did not work for a lot of people. Currently there isn't a "solid" fix for it. You can search the forum on this topic. Don't think that reversing the process and bootneuter will take care of this problem for you.
The best thing to do is don't mess with ziphone. It's better to be safe than sorry.
