is it possible to download songs from the itunes store without it relocking the phone ? i know if you update the phone to 1.1.1 the phone will relock. but under what other circumstances will it relock the phone. question is because i want to use itunes store to download songs to the iphone. does this lock the phone. any help thanks.

Well, you can't even download because if you unlocked and upgraded to 1.1.1 you wouldn't even have an iPhone. (meaning nothing works unless you downgrade the firmware) and then you will have a very expensive iPod Touch.

it will only relock if you choose to download and install the update through itunes. It will prompt you, so just say no.

You can turn off automatic updates in itunes through preferences. No reason why you can't download and buy stuff from the itunes store.
