Some thoughts/questions about unlocking 1.1.2 iphones
OK its clear that as until now iphones with fw 1.1.2 and new baseband and bootloader cannot be unlocked.
But is it possible to downgrade both fw and bb to an older one and then unlock so that we can use the iphone as a phone (even with that old firmware) and not only as an Ipod?
There have been a few guides here that describe how to go from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 and then to 1.0.2. If someone does this and then also downgrade bb to the old one, will it be possible then to unlock the phone using the 1.0.2 unlocking procedures? If not what would be the problem in doing so?

I think all of the existing tutorial for downgrading 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 and downgrading baseband are all only work for NON-out of the box virgin 1.1.2 iphone.
That's mean at this moment, we still can't do anything for the virgin 1.1.2 out of the box iphone

That's what I think too, but what I am trying here is to understand why a downgrade of both fw and bb and then an unlocking with the relevant tools wouldn't do the job....

Downgrading firmware -> Yes
Jailbraking -> Yes (with downgrading to 1.1.1 or 1.0.2 first)
Activate -> Yes (with downgrading to 1.1.1 first ..)
Unlock -> no !!
even you downgrade the firmware to 1.0.2, the baseband will stay at the new one. You still can't erase the baseband to make the phone unlockable, since the new 1.1.2 iPhone OTB comes with new bootloader, which looks like it make the bb writer unworking ..
That's the pain ..
so .. what i was trying to say is .. we can't rewrite bb since the new bootloader arrived ..

Thanks for your clear explaination.
But can anybody tell me is it possible to using shift+restore method to downgrade
a brand new OUT OF THE BOX VIRGIN 1.1.2 iphone even with the new boot loader?

ok then...now I get the picture....thanx sikachu for the input...
I guess then we all have to wait until the Dev team does its magic again....

That's mean we can summarize the different between a virgin 1.1.2 OTB iphone and a 1.1.2 iphone which is upgraded from 1.1.1 with the following:
Virgin 1.1.2 OTB iphone --- 1.1.2 fw + 1.1.2 BB + New Bootloader
1.1.1 --> 1.1.2 iphone --- 1.1.2fw + 1.1.2 BB + Old Bootloader
Am I right?

Exactly
BTW .. I can't tell you certainly that what method should be used to downgrade it too 1.1.1 .. some of them said only 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 does need DFU mode, just using shift+restore from itunes, but some said that just make 1.1.2 going to DFU mode first then using shift+restore method to downgrade 1.1.1

U are right, u can erase all the data about 1.1.2 and flash a 1.1.1 into it. But there is a bad guy call Baseband which cannot be flash out easily, and that bad guy baseband is actually the core for deciding the phone is locked or not.
