I believe the file is called "Media_Sym" and it's when you login to the phone using winscp. Is that the file to delete?

YEP THAT'S IT, DELETE Media_Sim IN WINSCP AND THE PHONE WILL REBOOT (at least mine did) AND WHEN YOU GET BACK GO TO SETTINGS--> ABOUT---> CAPACITY
I really love this place. You guys are great!!! Thanks.

you have to delete media_sym? located in /private/var/root?

Array
install vt100 terminal in the iphone....
then go to:
cd /private/var/root
then:
mv Media Media_sym
then
mv Mediaold Media
then reboot
and it should be fixed

Q: I connect the iPhone to iTunes and it only reports 300mb of space?
A: Go to WinSCP and check if you have a /var/root/Media.old. If so delete /var/root/Media folder and rename Media.old to Media. Restart iphone.

What I did is I did nothing.
Well. I got the error with only 300MB to, then used winSCP and logged on the iphone. And turned the iphone off. When I turned it on again the problem was gone!
