The concept of virginize / re-virgin first came up when 1.1.1 was released. At that time, most of the phones were 1.0.2 or older. At that time, all of these phones were soft unlocked by using iUnlock, unlock-fast.pxl or anySIM 1.0.2. These unlock software apparently corrupt the seczone in the baseband therefore if you update/upgrade these phones to 1.1.1, you will brick the phone (not necessarily with 0049 imei). So that when the re-virgin was developed. The first one was using the so called "geohot server". you can read it here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...light=revirgin
The server was up for about 1 week and after that it was shutdown. As soon as it was shutdown, Elite team then release the virginizer tool which automates a lot of things when compared to the first method. Today, that's what you use/download from the installer. More info on the Elite's virginizer is on the Elite's site.
So when we talk about re-virgin / virginizing, it should be for 1.0.2 phones that were unlocked using the old method.
What cause the 0049?. I don't know.
What can be used to fix it?. I don't know.
Some say virginizing will fix it but that is not true all the time. It is a hit & miss process.
Some say update to 1.1.3 will fix it, but that's not entirely true because the 0049 appears to go away but then may reappear when you downgrade to a lower baseband.
Technical discussion can be found in links I mentioned above.

the enirely true is that it goes after the Baseband Downgrader, after this, you have to use the virginizer - it works only on the BB 04.03.13_G!!! The virginizer repairs you imei and downgrades to an even lower baseband, wich prepairs the phone for the 1.1.1 FW restore! But, you can unlock and stay with the 1.0.2 if you want, now, when you have the imei fixed and the proper baseband, or update!

some thing very very interesting just happened
the week 29, 3.9 bl phone with IMEI 0049 and is now 1.1.2 that i posted pics of with service/signal using ultrasim but still bad imei

NOW GOT BACK GOOD IMEI - all i did was remove the ultrasim and reboot, and now its got good imei, i am running AnySim 1.2.1u now to see if it unlocks, but maybe the __sim load some data to the iphone? please someone else test..
EDIT - AnySim ullock was successful, rebooted and turned off airplane node, bad imei is back

Above: Thats it with a regular SIM card in there, NO ULTRA SIM, and AnySIM was NOT run yet

ABOVE: After AnySIM 0049 Again

put in the ultrasim+mysim and rebooted, proper IMEI and full service signal
hmmmmmm
so i get back good imei after a reboot after putting the ultrasim in, with the ultrasim in or out of the phone, once i out back in another sim (without ultrasim) bad imei is back...

I have tried to restore to 1.1.3 many times with different sims in the phone. I always get a 1011 error. Anysim 1.2.1u bricked the phone after my bootloader downgrade. also should note that wifi was lost after using anysim 1.2.1u. Any ideas on this?
for sale stealthsim 60 dollars.
located in hamilton ontario canada, will only ship to North America.

well...
it's funny how it works for some people and for other...it just doesn't....
onlu one thing found to be true for all....
1.1.3 restore corrects bad imei...
the problem seems to be...downgrading baseband...
STEP 7 MUST BE PERFORMED AFTER DOWNGRADING TO 1.1.1 (IN DFU MODE) IN YOUR 1.1.3 RESTORED IPHONE.
BIGBOSS REPO SEEMS TO BE BETTER THAN I.UNLOCK.NO REPO...
ALL THE NAMES LOOKS PRETTY THE SAME...
FIRST
repair baseband from hackthatphone.com/1.xml
SECOND
1.1.3>1.0.2 downgrader ant the sleepers.net/iphonerepo in installer (bigboss beta)
launch terminal....(install term-vt100 in installer....)
cd /usr/bin
restorebb
close terminal
check baseband version - should be 03.14.08
Terminal again
cd /usr/bin
virginize
i TRIED AGAIN AND IT WORKED...THAT'S WHY i KEEP REPEATING IT...
ACTUALLY WE DON'T UNDERSTAND THE EXACT PROBLEM OF BAD IMEI ISSUES...
UNLOCK ATTEMPT LIMITS....NCK.....MANY DIFFERENT POSTS...
ANY HELP IS WELCOME...
AT LEAST FOR ME AND FOR SOME OTHERS IT WORKED....
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

NOT UNDERESTIMATING YOUR EFFORTS....
STEP 7 IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP TO DONT GET A BAD IMEI AFTER GOING BACK TO 1.1.1...
AND STEP 7 IS EDITED TO BIG BOSS'REPO INSTEAD I.UNLOCK.NO....
CHECK IT OUT.....GRAB A BITE...TAKE A REST.....AND TRY AGAIN.....
i KEEP REPEATING THE PROCESS MYSELF AND IT WORKS....WITH MANY DIFFERENT PHONES....
SOMETIMES IT FAILS....SO i JUST GO BACK TO 1.1.3 AND START ALL OVER AGAIN...
ERRORS AFTER RESTORING? JUST IGNORE...AND KICK OUT USING INDEPENDENCE OR JAILBREAK 1.1.2 DEPENDING UPON THE FW VERSION RESTORED.....
ERROR 1? DFU MODE BEFORE RESTORE....
POST YOUR RESULTS...EVEN FAILED ONES...SO WE CAN HELP EACH OTHER.....

I don't know what the NCK thing is, but there must be something the virginizer doesn't touch or its not doing correctly which is causing this to fail. Can someone technically sound explain exactly what the virginiser does or why when the baseband is downgraded, the IMEI error occurs??!! Cheers.
why jailbreak 1.0.2?

Unsuccessful procedure

So i can install Installer.app, download repair tool, baseband downgrader as you instructed. You said if it doesn't work on 1.1.1, try restoring to 1.0.2. Not sure if you mean't after 1.1.3 restore or after baseband downgrade / repair, but in the end i gave up anyway!! Still not tried again, too busy.
Can you tell me the background of the iPhones that you've successfully repaired? Week manufacture, factory firmware, reason for fault etc. Also what version of iTunes are you using? I think i need to replicate exactly the set up you have.
I understand everything you have said in your previous posts, but let me explain my method etc.
Windows XP Home x86
iTunes v7.6, v7.5, 7.4 (Tried several, but not all methods on all versions...)
1) Start with 1.1.1, bad IMEI
2) Restore to 1.1.3, IMEI fixed
3) Restore to 1.1.1
4) Kick out of DFU using iPhuc, 'cmd fsboot'. (Sometimes doesn't work, so restore to 1.1.1 again, and try iPhuc again.
5) Confonted with Activation screen. IMEI OK.
6) Dial *#307#, connect to WiFi, set auto lock to never.
7) Jailbreak using i.unlock.no.
8) Install BSD 2.0, Install Term-vt100, Install BSD / Term fix v1.00, Install Repair Tool from i.unlock.no, Install Baseband downgrader 113-->1.0.2 from BigBoss Experiments/Betas.
9) Sometimes reboot for good measure!
10 ) Open Term:
'cd /usr/bin'
'restorebb'
Check General/About for baseband change. Correct.
'cd /usr/bin'
virginize
Seems successful. But check General/About, IMEI error again.
11) Restore back to 1.1.1. Invalid Sim installed error. IMEI error still...
12) Hold head in hands and sulk like a little girl...
That should be just about exactly how i have carried out the procedure, i may have missed a very minor point but... Hey!
I greatly appreciate your patience and believe you have done a great job so far njkim, especially for those for which it worked. Well done. But perhaps you could browse over this and check for anything i have or haven't done, or introduce a new idea.
Thanks very much.
JungleJim.
