I am in Germany having one working iphone 1.1.2 with tsim, using the hints here (thx by the way, works perfect) and one iPhone for testing, same config.
Tried iWorld on that one.
Setting to Germany leaves AppSupport as it is (used pntedit to check). Then set to Schweiz (Switzerland), after that the iPhone reboots. did pnedtit on it. now looks this way

that seems to work, but your /System/Library/Frameworks/Support is flooded with symlinks >1000
hope that helps

Please do not take me wrong. iWorld being a GUI based tool does a good job in preventing the Phone/SMS crash, allowing the iPhone to be more than an iTouch.
It is specially nice for those that are not comfortable in dealing with the manual replacement of files.
The side effect: you get French callerid matching rules, so it probably mean no callerid matching.

one more thing (as Stevie would say): Even the Apple presets on an onmodded 1.1.2 for Germany dont fit complete.

The patch replace the "fr" with the country code and the "33" with the dialing code for the country. Just that.
These are the rules inside the file. You can see that sg (Singapore) is where France was, with the same rules.

Oh. What do I have to do now to fix caller ID? I have to repatch the AppSupport?

They are also adding symbolic links to a particular network configuration plist, to avoid the UnknownCarrier.plist. Once again, a mere workaround.
Well, as I said, for those that are only interested in getting their phones "talking", fine. I do write my own network configuration plists and use the complete AppSupport fix.
The reality is that a single tool that will handle it correctly is very unlike to become available. Too many countries, network operators to collect information.
So, if you just want your phone/sms to work, go with iWorld. If you want the whole shebang, you must use timschuerewegen's pntedit, optionally the local matching extra patch and write the appropriate network configuration plist. Not easy, but once in place, works perfectly.

I have tried Tim's app. But it always closes by itself.

Search for the step by step guide in this thread.
It is a command line, aka shell/terminal, application, so clicking on it will not run.
EDIT: let me be nice
