it was grayed out 3 days ago but I did the same and succesfully fixed it again..phew..

I upgraded to 2.0 from 1.1.4 well first of all I dont know if it helped but swifi were always telling me nothing to fix, sometimes, backup restored, maybe that helped too.

in 2.0 it was grayed, then here is when i drained the battery, i uploaded some music, putted the brightness to 100%, and i putted it into my freezer playing coldplay songs until the battery drained (dont forget autolock set to never)
5 hours later the iphone wasnt playing music and it was turned off , i assumed the battery was drained but no, it just turned up and it still had like 20% of battery,
i went to settings...and...still grayed out!,, damn, i said, but i remember some users that said that resetting network settings may work so i did it and after the reboot it was working! it was failing a little, not detecting the networks , it had a weak signal so i rebooted again, there is when i could enter to google.

a few hours later i still wasn't covinced about this fix, so i rebooted a couple of times but it was still working... 1 day later, it was grayed out again!

i downgraded to 1.1.4 and the baseband too. i used swifi and it said something about a backup restored, upgraded to 2.0 , drained the battery again, and is working perfectly! but it is like getting very hot when i turn on the wifi.

    good luck to everyone

I'm still thinking that we have to fully reload the bootloader on our phones. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this?
I think that the only method to do this is doing the hardware method using testpoints in A17 trace.

but there should be a way to force the flash is it not supposed to be the bootneuter to have total control of the baseband bootloader? there should be a way of forcing this using the .eep and .fls files, and how about the 3G bootloader 5.9? uploading that bootloader may help us, but there must be an unlock first to control that bl

I probably must have a corrupted bootloader since no restore have been able to get my IMEI, ICCID, Bluetooth, Wifi, Baseband and so on.

To this point, I can only think of four possibilities:

    1. DFU to 2.0 (not sure if it will have the expected result)
    2. Hope that George Zhu fixes his 1st gen iPhone (unlikely to resolve my issue since it's not the very same issue)
    3. Wait for the 'Linux on iPhone' project to come up with a solution to change the bootloader (read this, and then this) ** I think this might be the software solution, if you think so too please leave a comment on this post to ask them for help **
    4. Try to upload the bootloader to the hardware via testpoints

What do you think? Does anyone else have any idea?

So the only fool-proof method is through the hardware?

OK, if this is a hardware issue, what has to be replaced, the Comm board or the Logic Board?
