Default software unlock for 1.1.2, WK48, USA iPhone

Guys, I've just got back from holiday and bought an iPhone from Hong Kong which is imported from the USA, already Jailbroken on firmware 1.1.2.

I am from the UK and would like to unlock the iPhone to work with Vodafone.

I'm not 100% sure of the history of firmware for my iPhone but I can only assume (after reading around forums) that my iPhone has been downgraded to an earlier firmware, jailbroken and upgraded back to 1.1.2 and jailbroken again.

My question is, (and im really sorry for asking but right now im totally confused), is there...

    a) a way to get my iPhone back to how it originally was, much like that of a NEW iPhone bought from APPLE so i can just follow the other guides available...

    b) what EXACTLY do i need to do to get it working with Vodafone UK?

All this firmware, bootloader, update, downgrade talk is just confusing me. I'll be using Windows XP and iTunes 7.5

Any replies will be really much appreciated. Many thanks.

    Chey

you just need to read around and get more comfortable with the termanology used in the iphone world.

going to iclarified website will teach u a good amount.

if the iphone is already jailbroken then that's a plus, have you tried using ur voda sim yet? its always kinda sketchy buying already modded iphones, which is why i went to the apple store and bought a factory iphone.

but if u wanna start from scratch. go download the 1.1.1 firmware file from somewhere here on the forum jus search for it.

also download the 1.1.2 firmware file. and do a full restore to 1.1.2 using a pc your gonna open itunes, hold ur shift button on the keyboard then click on "restore" so you can select ur own file. then select the 1.1.2 file and let it do its thing.

when its done, put ur iphone into dfu mode (hold the home button and sleep button for 10 seconds, when the screen goes black let go of the sleep button and keep holding the home button for another 10 seconds, do all this while its hooked up to ur pc with itunes open, ur itunes should make a "ding" sound then a pop up will show its in restore mode.

now, hold the shift button on ur keyboard again, and restore to the 1.1.1 firmware file.

let it do its thing, when its done use ibrickr to start the phone up (find this on the forum as well, mainly in the 1.1.2 jailbreak how to in the genius bar tutorials section)

after ur at 1.1.1 ur gonna follow the 1.1.1 jailbreak method in that genius bar tutorial

when thats all done, and ur phone works, open installer and install oktoprep, bsd subsystem 2.0 and terminalvt100

now go back to ur itunes and hold shift again and hit UPDATE this time, not restore but UPDATE, then select that 1.1.2 file again and let it do its thing.

when this is done, use the 1.1.2jailbreak.dos file or whatever to rejailbreak ur iphone. this file is also avail in that 1.1.2 tutorial in the geniusbar section of the forum.

when that thing is done, it'll ask u to restart ur iphone (hold sleep button and slide to turn off, when its off press the sleep button to turn it back on)

it will boot up, restart a few times on its own (let it do this and don't touch the iphone) then finally you'll hit a screen that says "slide to unlock" and ur all done with jailbreaking

now open installer, add installer.iclarified.com to your sources list

then go into the iclarified install section and run the 1.1.2/1.1.3 unlock

when its done restart ur iphone and your all completly done.

Bearing in mind where you got it from, there is a fair chance that it's had the hardware modified to unlock it.

    Smirkis, many thanks.

The phone has just been jail broken. It was originally using the Turbosim but when i got back to the UK tried to use my Sim card in it, i think i might have broken the Turbosim as this now no longer works.

Its not a huge issue as, due to the software unlock, I would rather be using this method instead. Current Sim card doesn't seem to recognize the carrier.

From your first reply to my post, I gather that by doing a full restore to 1.1.2, i lose everything on my phone? Again, its not a huge issue a I don't have much on there, but am I right in saying that it will remove everything that is on the iPhone and be like an OTB 1.1.2?

I agree that buying an iPhone pre jail broken is sketchy but i would like to start from scratch so i can simply follow that guide on iClarified (which i have been reading before i posted here)

I am confident enough to do a full restore back to factory defaults (as if it was bought OTB 1.1.2), downgrade, jailbreak etc... what I am concerned about is "what happens if i mess up"

So in summary... follow your first reply...

    then:
    - How to Activate and Jailbreak Your OTB 1.1.2 iPhone Using Windows
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=461

    then:
    - How to Unlock Your 1.1.2, 1.1.3 OTB iPhone
    http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=649

Also, the UK has the 16GB version iPhone out. Its valentines day next week and i know my partner would love an iPhone. I assume that they are 1.1.3 OTB which means that i can simply do this software unlock?

Many thanks Smirkis, you've been great help so far.

you are absolutely correct on everything.

restoring to 1.1.2 will lose everything on it and be like a new iphone. then u can go from there and downgrade jailbreak/upgrade back to 1.1.2 then jailbreak then do the unlock

also the new 16gig is unlockable as well using the same method your using on your phone. every iphone out is now unlockable via software.

    life is great isn't it?
