all guides I have read so far, say that you have to have your future SIM in the phone before performing the unlock with AnySIM. What is the purpose? I have done several unlocks up to now, and I always had the original AT&T-SIM in the phone ... during Jailbreak and Unlock.

also used AT&T SIM on several unlocks, no probles at all after swaping SIM's

For unlocking, it doesn't matter. For activating, better to use your own sim.

I always use the AT&T SIM for over 20 unlocks.

ive always used the at&t sim that came with the phone too

used my own sim, not the att one, doesnt matter though.

any SIM card will do the same. no matter

i use the ATT for all the process and after all, i change to my carrier's SIM.
