erasing all content is not the same as restore that we usually associate with. if you want to restore, you need to plug your iphone into the computer and hold sleep and home button until the phone shuts down and let go of the sleep button while continuing to hold on to home button. you'll hear your windows make the familiar usb pluged-in noise.

mac-tel comp shouldnt' be much different to restore I would assume.
