Replaced radio module, now have an unlocked phone!
Hi
Back in those days where you had to open your iphone to perform the hardware unlock ; I screwed up mine and got the dreaded 1011 error when trying to flash the iPhone.
So I had this dead iphone on a shelf for over 3 months.
I ordered a radio communication board from ipaqrepair.co.uk.
It arrived a week later and I replaced the communication board with the new one ; resoldered the battery. Started it ; all worked.
Then flashed the iphone to 1.1.1 ; no error ! very happy.
Then using Independence I unlocked the iPhone... And what a big surprise ; my Telstra SIM card worked first go ; I did not unlock this phone !!
Has anyone any experiences with the folks at ipaqrepair ?
The communication board looked slightly different (the pca itself is blue rather than green).
Could it be possible that this communication board is unlock ; always ? I thought that it would depend on the firmware loaded to it no ?
Anyhow, quite happy, I now have an unlocked phone that I did not unlock
Cheers
Jean-Yves

Wow sounds promising. Do you think this would work for a new OTB 1.1.2 iphone with the new bootloader?? If yes I think it would be recommended to write up a hardware unlock guide via swapping of Comm boards

It does sound promising, but wouldn't it be the same cost as buying a TurboSim?

iPhone Communications Board
yes it is ...
I first thought that they could have simply sold me the radio board from an iphone that had been sim unlocked before.
However, my phone had 1.0.2 until then ; and I flashed it with 1.1.1 ; I should have lost the unlock isn't it ?

probably more expensive. And much hard to do than putting a TurboSIM.
changing the radio communication board requires to open the iPhone ; unsolder the battery , put the new comm board in etc...
not easy ...

How can I check which baseband the comm board is running ?

If this was a cheap solution, I would've done it. I can solder pretty well and have done a lot of Wii and 360 modchips in the past. Arr I'll wait for a software unlock

I haven't followed the iphone scene for a while ; but has this firmware been made locked-free ?
