first of all I'd like to thank you for the effort you put into this tutorial. However, before I proceed I wanted to ask some questions:

After applying the unlocking tutorial, will I be able to:

    - use my AT&T data plan to access the internet?
    - access the internet from my German carrier Vodafone?
    - make and receive calls with my AT&T and Vodafone SIM?
    - use the latest (1.1.1) firmware?
    - upgrade to future versions (>1.1.1)?

And lastly: Is there anything (other than visual voicemail) that will be different or not working anymore after I apply the unlocking tutorial?

Thanks for answering these questions and making me more confident to unlock my iPhone. :-)
    ANSWERS:
    1. I don't know. I would say yes.
    2. Yes if it uses GPRS/EDGE and you put the settings.
    3. YES.Once unlock is unlocked.Unlocked means you can swap SIM cards.
    4. YES. In this tutorial you end up with firmware 1.1.1
    5. I think only some people working for APPLE company know that.
    6. I have read somewhere that if you are a registered AT&T your voicemail will still work. That is dependant on the carrier (in this case AT&T). Everything will work fine. Or at least it does in mine.

But if you are not sure about it better don't do it. My experience is this method does a clean job if you really follow the tutorial. As an extra precaution. I would do it from the "cleanest" computer possible. I mean one which is not full of junk software and with a clean install of iTunes.

I wouldn't call it MY tutorial because I simply polished the other one and added some more detail. Thanks anyway.

I don't get that delay and didn't heard anything similar in the other thread. Any one else please report.
Have you installed any other apps with installer?

6.5 [In winSCP] Upload iphoneactivation.pem from \iasign\bin in your computer to /System/Library/Lockdown [The file is 1277k in size permissions:0644]

when I do this - it asks whether I want to overwrite a file
    I click Yes

    then I do Ctrl + T
    and
    killall lockdownd
    nothing happens

    I restart the phone after 2 - 3 mins
It says - No service - asks for activation
rest all working fine - but still no service

I try to killall lockdownd again
it says that it could not find the process
