there's a fix to almost every problem, except the 0049 problem, and even in that case, it's still functional, just no phone

I see, thats good news for me as I'm about to go buy one and want to get it working with t-mobile.
Another quick question.
I read on the unlock iphone page http://iphone.unlock.no/#Start and it says that its impossible to go back to 1.1.1 if you buy a new phone with 1.1.2 and unlock it, but i have seen other things on the net that say this is possible.
What's the vibe?

you can go to back to 1.1.1 but you cannot downgrade the baseband or unlock a new OOB 1.1.2 due to the new bootloader
check this link: http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgzw9xs_0gfhxns

I think i get it,
so i can down grade to 1.1.1 from 1.1.2 and unlock and jail break the phone, but I can't use the 1.1.2 original baceband and unlock it.
