Exclamation Question regarding 1.1.2 OTB release

Hi guys! I got an iPhone for Christmas and I was anxious to unlock it, however I read a TON of information that most of the phones that came with firmware version 1.1.2 have a new bootloader version (4.6) that cannot be unlocked....

    Here is my question:

What will happen if I try to unlock the phone without checking the bootloader version? Is is something simple as "the unlock will fail" or I will have an iBrick instead of an iPhone, because something might get damaged?

I called apple today and asked when the phone was manifactured and I have been told "June 29th" so I think that there is a slim chance that I might have the old bootloader, but if I don't, I do not want to damage the phone while attempting to unlock it.

I would check the bootloader version to be sure (I found a great article posted here!) however, the process seems a little too complicated for an id10t like me

    Could you advise?

    Thank you!

Use the search function or check the stickies. Everything you need to learn can be found with ease. If others can do it, so can you. Just follow the yellow brick road.

    Which week is it?

(Check the 4th and 5th numbers of the phone's serial number).

    TurboSIM-like methods? No way.

    - Unlocked Week 47 1.1.3 iPhone, baseband 04.04.05_G.
    - Bought in Minneapolis, MN;
    - Currently on TIM carrier.

If u read the sticky thread...u can know ur Bootloader version from ur Serial Number...

check the 4th+5th numbers....that's the week manifacture for u iPhone..

anything after week 45, have 1.1.2 with 4.6 Bootloader....

and If try to unlock it...unlock fails....as I know.

4th and 5th digit of the serial are "50"

I know that most likely I have the new bootloader, but will I do any damage if I attempt to do sim unlock or it would simply not work (the unlock)

If the unlock simply "fails" but doesn't do any damage to the phone, I would like to try it just for the heck of it however, I don't want to have a $400 paperweight... could anyone confirm that?

It is almost 100% chance that your phone has the 4.6 bootloader.

Mine is week 47. I tried to unlock it anyway (just like you are trying to do). What happened was that my iPhone got stuck booting. It rebooted by itself every 30 seconds. To resolve that, put it into restore mode (aka Home Button + Power Button) and restore to 1.1.2 via iTunes.

After that, I had to jailbreak it again.

don't waste your time trying unlocking, things go wrong in initial steps ,the current unlock apps can't go through the new bootloader, hence baseband will not be flashed, slim chance of bricking, if it gets stuck in recovery(use iBrickr to boot it)..
I think apple guy fooled you with manufacturing date, if i am not wrong june 29th was iPhone's release date
