Well as I understood DevTeam dont need the bootloader to be newer. They need the secpack (which is I think the baseband) but again maybe the baseband is not newer so that means we still have to see but I believe they will update the baseband so it wont work with TurboSIM and things like that. :)
So it isnt quite sure that baseband will be upgraded with new firmware? What's the chance in percentage that BB would be newer?
This is just my opinion, but I doubt it will have a newer baseband!
They sure want to stop everyone from using X-sims, but a newer secpack will result in the release of a new Anysim, which will unlock all 1.1.2 OTB
So if I was apple and I had to choose:
1) Keep the same secpack and people can unlock with X-sims
2) Update the secpack and make it so people can't use X-sims(but they can software unlock it)
With option 1 less people will be using a hacked iphone!
My guess is a new seckpack will be coming with the next OTB iphones
But once again, this is my thinking and not apple's
Good way of putting it but for me apple will come up with somthing completly new to stop both x-sims and software unlocks, This time they might even brick your phone if you have 3rd party apps who knows?Quote:

why ? because they need a memory that is NOT flashable to stop preventing people unlocking via software

they may brick it , but it is always recoverable .. the only way for them to stop is either frequent updates or server side technics .. (both seem not possible though)

I doubt theyll stop the support for 3rd party apps because in february there will be the release of the SDK and that means supporting 3rd party apps :)

Don't you think that the apple developers are reading this forum and know in advance all our plans.
And to be honest, the easier the unlock the more phones they sell. Never forget that all these is for money and revenues.

I understand unlocking iPhones is a thing that keeps a lot of people very busy on this forum. I don't think Apple makes such a big deal out of the whole thing. Mind you; Apple is a professional hardware company with a commercial point of view that needs to keep the shareholders happy, and ofcourse the customers happy. Also they are more concerned about the competition that will introduce new compatitive products than about people that want to make calls without restrictions.
After all: Apple is a hardware company that makes it's sales and profits with selling quantities at the best possible pricing. The newly invented turnover from Telco providers is nice, but will die in the long run. Competition might come up with similar, cheaper, full featured , and also improved products that creates the need to either lower selling prices or invest into hard- and software modifications of the iPhone.
If I was Apple I would make sure the baseband would be hacked, in fact I would create a secret "DevTeam" department within Apple itself to make sure software like AnySim would be spread widely. A hacked iPhone is a guarantee for exploding sales! And increasing sales make the sharehoders happy and willing to invest in the company...
You can see the same thing happening with Microsoft's X-Box 360 and Sony's Playstation 3. Allthough the Playstation 3 is a much nicer and better product, in the end it cannot stand the competition with the X-Box 360, since the X-Box is hacked (you can copy gamedisks). Once the Playstation 3 is hacked, the X-Box 360will need a serious hardware update to keep the thing interesting for the public.
One other thing that keeps coming up everywhere on this forum is that people are scared that any new firmware will break their iPhone. I really don't see this happen and I seriously see no gain here for Apple. After all it is in Apple's best interest to keep happy and satisfied customers. I think they will understand it is not very professional nor wise to get back at their customers just because they "played" with "their" product, knowing they paid good money for it.
The old saying "Do not bite the hand that feeds you" falls right into place here.
I see Apple as a professional company with a inventive perspective on how to make products that interests the general public. They know any lock can be picked. The iPhone is no exception, can and will be unlocked in due time. Any encryption made by man, can be decrypted by another.
The one that benefits most by unlocking the iPhone, is not the individual sod that has bought the product, but Apple!!!
Mark my words: Right after Christmas when sales go down you wil see a unlock solution for the iPhone fw 1.1.2 as well as a firmware hack for the Playstation 3.
