Hey guys, if I am using an iPhone on the Rogers network and I don't want the EDGE to work, what should I do? My plan doesn't include data so I don't want it to be randomly connecting and racking up fees. Wi-fi will be just fine for me. I did searching on the forums and I know about just leaving the APN settings blank, but I also read that even if you leave them blank, some carriers will still be able to pick up the EDGE. Anybody have any experience on Rogers that could help me out? Thanks!

download ibrickr .80 ... and install a program called (switch) i think... it allows u too switch off edge or wifi ...

Actually, use your installer app and install services.app. After install, run the services and you will be able to turn on/off various things.
you can use services.app like what dtube said or you can just put a dummy value in the edge settings. im using rogers here in vancouver
so if i leave the settings blank will edge work?
Hey guys, I'm also in Canada (just signed up with FIDO) to use my OOTB 1.1.1. iPhone. I'm wondering, did any of you get the version 1.1.1 phones and if so, which of the many hacking methods did you use? I started using the TouchFree method as outlined in the REALLY ULTIMATE GUIDE but my Safari keeps saying it cant find the server (IP on phone always starts with 169.254, even when I renew lease), so Im not able to connect to any site even though I see WiFi icon @ the top. Any help would be great!

Let's answer both questions:
1st one regarding EDGE not being activated, don't install services, you can just go to Settings->General->Network->EDGE and delete all the information you see in there, APN, User and Password. That will deactivate your EDGE functionality from your iphone.
2nd question, regarding the 1.1.1, I've had my iphone, originaly bought with 1.1.1, unlocked with 1.0.2, then I virginzed it to 1.0.2 to be able to upgrade to 1.1.1 with itunes, and then unlocked with this instructions: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12237
Regarding the WIFI problems you are having, if you get that IP address means that for some reason the WIFI is not asigning you a correct IP address, try setting a FIXED IP that works in your network, you can do that by knowing the IP address of your computer and using one in that range, example:
Computer IP address: 192.168.1.100
Asign to your iphone this ip address: 192.168.1.140
Just make sure you have access to the WIFI network you are trying to connect to, sometimes they have WEP encryption and/or MAC address filtering so no people from outside can use the WIFI unless they know this password or have the MAC address listed as permited, and also that the IP address you are asigning to your iphone is not already used.
