do you know if the process will work on an already jailbroken iPhone 1.1.2 OTB which i use with TurboSIM?
Thanks a lot!
If you still can't get to DFU then just restore, and run ZiPhone 2.2 which you can download from the below links. Then tick "Jailbreak" "acitvate" and "unlock", you shouldn't have a problem, if you are using windows run the program as Admin.
The problem, if you had read my posts, is not that I can't get to DFU or Recovery, I can do that just fine. The only thing is that it's the ONLY thing my phone will do. and when I say ONLY, that's just what I mean. I can't restore it. THAT'S what I want to do. I don't even care about all this jailbreaking stupidity anymore. I just want this phone to WORK.
In the first place. I bought the phone, took it home, activated it with a Pick Your Plan thing with ATT. I decided that working the way it was supposed to wasn't enough for me. SO I tried to jailbreak it. Which....surprise surprise, BROKE IT. now it does pretty much one of three things. Gets stuck in a loop, where it will power on, show me the cord leading to the iTunes symbol, rinse repeat. OR it will show me only that symbol until it powers itself off. OR even better, NOTHING.
So far putting it into DFU and then restoring it hasn't done anything whatsoever except make iTunes take longer than ever before to tell me that it can't restore my iPhone. It's never gotten "stuck" on the restoration part before but now iTunes has been hanging at "Restoring iPhone software..." for a while now. I'm pretty sure it's not doing much else than being stupid, because the phone (apparently sick of waiting for nothing) turned itself off a minute ago and has stayed that way. It's still connected....iTunes STILL thinks it's restoring something...
I'm basically at a complete loss here

No I haven't dont that, I was thinking about it though. I just sent my iphone home with a friend to see if her itunes can restore it

I put the phone into DFU, opened itunes and had itunes try to restore it.
iTunes took longer than I've ever seen (and that's saying something cuz this thing does EVERYTHING slowly) to do pretty much nothing. iTunes extracted the software, said that it was preparing the iphone for the restore, and then said restoring iphone. it got one little green bar into it and hung there for so long that my iphone turned itself off. I let it sit there for about ten minutes to see if it would do anything else but itunes showed no progress further than one little green bar so I unplugged the iphone and went to the store. Itunes never even realized that I had unplugged the phone,
Doesn't sound too good. I'm more inclined to think it's a client problem rather than a hardware problem i.e. theres something on your machine conflicting with your iPhone from it's previous install.
It's never good to put your iPhone in to someone else's iTunes when your troubleshooting errors. Luckily for me I work in IT and have the luxury of free access to hardware I can 'test' so I normally do things on a fresh installation of windows to minimise problems. (Sorry that's not much help)
sending it home with my friend worked
My phone is fixed
Thank you guys for helping me
I'm going to throw up a partition of windows on my machine and see if 2GB of ram will get my iphone things done
I think this is the only time I've ever wanted windows on my computer but if any of you have tried itunes on linux (ie through Wine) you know they don't play well together
anyway thank you all again putting up with me and being the only people to be really helpful:D
and PS to Spawny: funny thing, i work in a data center. I'm just very new to A. being able to do this to one of my cell phones and B. apple products in general.
I had pretty much decided it was the computer i'm using but
I didn't have quick access to a windows disc
the disc drive on my computer chose a beautiful time to crap out
my room mate's computer is infected with all kinds of fun spyware and other misc. windows BS.
In short, I'm really not THAT much of a noob it's just that circumstances fucked me (and it's my weekend so I don't have my work comps to play with)
Excellent news ! :D
I'm now running a SNES emulator on my 1.1.3 and I'm in love with Mario World and Mario Kart again!
