Successfully 1.1.2 OOTB by SuperSIM, but questions

I can successfully unlock OOTB 1.1.2 using SuperSIM following this thread http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2215; thanks a lot to the guys for those efforts.

However, I have something to ask just want to make it clear because I try to do something different from the thread in order to make it 'cheap'. If I can find some solution out I believe we can do this method < $30.

First, I can get cheap SIM Card Reader from local accessory shop; not big deal, cost ~$7-8, but it can do only the scanning and playing around the contact number, SMS, etc. I can use it to find IMSI, ICCID, and my Ki successfully. However, no PIC programming capability.

The next to get rid of is the once-use programmer. The SIM Card Reader + IC Prog cannot detect the blank silvercard so I make the simple one of Dex's silvercard programmer http://users.net.yu/~dejan/. I struckled for a while during attemps to unlock but eventually found somewhere telling that Dex's programmer cannot work with IC Prog. I then did this; just do PIC programming using IC Prog + Dex's programmer. Even I used the configured HEX files to do this I cannot successfully unlock. Then I turn to just put the PIC programmed silvercard into the SIM Card Reader and connect to SIM EMU again. When I read directly from the silvercard this time SIM EMU can detect the card, but all fields are empty!!!!!. My hope was enlightened and I put every numbers in again and directly write to card, not to the files anymore. After that is the BINGO; I can unlock.

I review back to my process and see that even the Dex's programmer is cheap like nothing and it's clamed not work well with IC Prog but I can finally figure out to make it done. Now when it's the time for the others they just encounter how to make the Dex's programmer by themselves. It's not for Mr.Joe Somebody.

That's my first question... why can't we use the same SIM Card Reader to do PIC programming through IC Prog?????

Do we really need a programmer that work with IC Prog?????

What's actually this SuperSIM method do? Is it just a simple multiple SIM in one card method? If it is so I can find a lot cheaper dual SIM kit (need to cut both SIM cards). Is there any switching mechanism inside SuperSIM????

Ok, I wonder where do you get cheap SIM Card Reader?

However, can you please tell me all the hardware stuff needed to follow the guide and where I can buy it. Your help would be greatly appreciate.

I will try my quick and dirty explanation on how the "TurboSIM and siblings" work.

Basically the idea is to fool the phone when it's checking if the inserted SIM card is from a valid operator. For that the phone reads the ICCID that is the SIM card number that contains information such as country and operator id. Based on this info it will allow or deny access to the phone network.

What this "xxxxSIM" do is to fool the phone with a fake ICCID so that it will pass the test and using some "magic" still allow the phone to correctly talk to the network.

How the later works? Well, each "solution" will do it differently. Some do it in a very simple way orthers will resort to more complex tricks. But at the end, the phone network sees your regular SIM and the phone thinks that an AT&T (or other official operator) SIM card is inserted.

As for programming the SilverCard with a "el cheapo" reader, the name says it all "READER". The fact that it allows you to change things like contacts and some settings is a bonus (no really it's just that your are not programming the card, but changing the "data area").

I've never used a SilverCard/GreenCard, but I've heard that reading the Ki may not be possilbe with newer SIM Cards.

The truth is that programming the card requires different drivers and hardware features. Changing data is for the "average joe" while programming is not.

Im curious, cuz I work in a mobile operator company and was wondering can I put that (false) information into a normal SIM?
Like when the programming of the SIM ocures could I go there and tell them put this information instead of normal SIM and would it work?

Nope. The "fake" information is just sent once. The rest of the time it sends the real information. That is why it works. So hacking a chip to send the fake information all the time will not produce the expected results.
