I just wrote up how I went from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 using ZiPhone
but you said that it cant unlock it if you dont make a downgrade to the bootloader so how ziphone 2.5 unlock it and keep the latest bootloader?
and about my 1.1.1, do i have to uninstall all the apps i got on my iphone or i do upgrade on itunes straight ahead?
ZiPhone in its latest version will downgrade the bootloader and it may work or it may not - its a risk you take... there are quite a few people on here who used ZiPhone and ended up unable to make phone calls!
I am sure its reversible but its an annoying possible complication - Independence will NOT downgrade your bootloader - it will only replace your baseband with a 1.1.2 unlocked version so it is much safer and if it goes wrong you can just unlock again until it works! It is much safer!
Follow the hackthatphone tutorial for upgrading your 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 IPSF as it has all the information and the links to downloads for signal.app and installer so it really is very very easy to follow!
The problem with updating jailbreaks is the apps may cause issues when you reinstall them and cause installer not to behave properly - the hassle of one app working and one not isn't really worthit and it would be better in my opinion to RESTORE and set the phone up as a NEW iPhone without any of your previous settings.
If you really don't want to lose all the information you backed up then my advice would be to delete everything in installer then SSH into the phone and make sure there are no installer app folders left on the phone and if there are then delete them.
Then back up the phone again and update - but some files will remain on your phone backup even if you delete them from installer and the phone (such as the taskbar notifier which gets added to the phone somewhere but not in the same place as other apps so I don't know where to look to remove it if it is even possible) but if all you added was "simple" 3rd party apps then in theory if you delete them from installer and delete the installer and app files left on the phone you SHOULD be able to put them all back without any issues.
But its much less hassle to just start over! What I have done is rename my iPhone differently everytime I set it up as new so I still have my old backups should I ever wish to restore them in the future for any reason!
i dont think i really understood that.
if i upgrade in itunes and not restore all my stuff on the iphone will remain such as sms calls, music etc.
and if i restore it will become new phone so why does it matter to restore and not to upgrade cause i really dont want to loose everything on my iphone especially all my sms.
i didnt understand the part of backup as a new phone and all these stuff.
last time i upgraded my phone from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 and i still have some problem in speaker cause when i make a call on speaker the other person hear himself and i cant really use this feature and this is why i upgraded it to 1.1.1 in order to get it fixed but it still doesnt work properly, so maybe it because i didnt done restore and did upgrade?
thank you very much for your support.
ZiPhone in early versions used gunlock method however it now uses AnySIM, but booth those unlocks can coexist ... so there is no worries, and for ZiPhone notoriuous bootloader downgrade new version (if i'm not wrong that would be 2.5b) does not auto downgrade, or simply use eZiPhone from http://ziphoneold.blogspot.com/ .... Regarding grayed wifi and other problems this is more baseband stuff(since it is the program that governs your commboard :WiFi, Btooth, and GSM), and not Bootloader, and that issue usualy pop-up if jailbraked before jalibreak ZiPhone, that is why is so inportant to do the DFU RESTORE to wipe anything that has left from previous unlocks and jailbreaks ....
Hope this was hellpull for you ... :)
Qoute from READ.ME supplied with ZiPhone :
If you find any missing icons or the iPhone is "strange" may be due to old settings files being
restored to the phone after iTunes finishes installing firmware. Be sure you choose the option
to NOT save settings and to treat the iPhone as a NEW PHONE. This is especially important if
any other jailbreak solution was used on your 1.1.3 phone before Ziphone.
so if i got it all correctly what i need to do is to back up using iphonepcsuite, restore to 1.1.4, then install signal.app and installer, and then use the back up to restore all my sms calldata etc?
Yes - use the backup created by iPhone PC Suite to put it all back and not the itunes back up!
Restore to 1.1.4 so its a new phone and doesn't have any old data on it. You will have to re-sync all your media afterwards.
Follow the hackthatphone tutorial I posted but just back up using the PC suite first and then restore it using that after. Make sure that after restoring you set the iPhone up as new!
can you post me a link to download the pc suite for mac or there is only for pc?
