today I checked the current status of the unlock researching proccess.
"Currently impossible with software only solutions. Probably possible when apple releases next firmware version (1.1.3)"
Does this mean that the team stopped looking for an software only solution and they are waiting for the next firmware update?

well, from anything I've read (and hopefully understood) so far:
For an unlock as we know it today, a newer firmware is needed to apply it.
As it seems some parts of the firmware/baseband can only be overwritten by newer parts, as downgrades are not possible. Therefore a new firmware is needed.

Surprised that dev team can't fake a update or something...they're doing a crazy job already!
To be fair, the Dev Team at one point held the opinion that writing to the baseband required a hardware hack to enable and iPhoneSIMFree proved otherwise, thus paving the way to iUnlock and in turn AnySIM.Quote:

i am confused. i had an unlocked 1.0.2 which was upgraded to 1.1.2 activated and unlocked (and is wokring fine) . how come unlocking is impossible while unlock is released and used?
i know that devteam is not yet released but practically my iphone is unlocked which (proves that unlocking is not impossible, unless my iphone will be relocked with a time trigger :-( ?

I am sorry but, I thought we would need a firmware update OR a working exploit? Or do we need both to get a working unlock? :(

are we waiting for a new FIRMWARE or new BOOTLOADER
NEED ANSWER GUYS
As I have understood we need a new firmware which includes a new baseband (not bootloader). With the new baseband comes a newer secpack which can then be used to flash the baseband on OTB 1.1.2 phones resulting in a way to unlock the phone.
However that method (just taking the secpack) will leave you 1 release of FW behind unless the Dev Team figures out how to flash the baseband with the new baseband in a way that makes unlocking possible (likely requires deciphering of the new baseband, finding an exploit in it, hacking it and then flashing that one instead). Probably a quick solution if a new secpack comes out is to get the 1.1.2 baseband hacked and flashed and then later on people who waited (or had turbosim) can unlock and upgrade to 1.1.3(4/5/x) when the new baseband is hacked.
