Huge scare ... uploaded patched MeCCA file and iPhone in frozen reboot
So I spent an hour today editing a few mp3's into ringtones until I discovered I couldn't simply upload them into the phone anymore (1.0.2, I could just copy them over and it worked).
So I searched and found the patched MeCCA (anyone know what that stands for?) and uploaded it via iphonebrowser 1.4
I took all the precautions like backing up the existing file and coming to terms with a possible restoration or worse BRICK. But most had no issues with the update so I went ahead.
On reboot...the screen would freeze at the apple logo...for minutes upon minutes. I read about similar problems where people waiting 48 hrs? or plugged it into the wall...or something... I dunno.
I felt that the problem was that patched file I uploaded...so before doing a restore,
I tried to simply reboot the phone (nope)
then tried to connect to computer and reboot (nope)
then used the recovery boot option while connected to the computer...this at least allowed me to use iphonebrowser to take a look at the file system.
Found that the entire patched file did not upload. File size is 1.3MB, actual file size on the phone was 400k. So I deleted and reuploaded the file...BAM, that quickly the phone got out of the frozen apple logo screen and booted up.
I have again...a working iphone and now some ringtones.
