How to find out how my iPhone has been unlocked?

Sorry for maybe repeating this question, but I have been searching the forum for this point, but did not find any feed.

I have an iPhone running on 1.02 with 03.14.08_G.
I have bought this iPhone already unlocked, therefore I have no idea how the unlock process had been performed.
I want to upgrade the firmware to 1.1.1 and than to 1.1.2.

Via the app installer I have added the unlock.no and have downloaded the virginizer for 3.xx.
I ran it but after completing the first step it stopped and quit the job providing a message failed.
Ending up with an no service iphone.
After a reboot the phone is working with no issues, calls, sms, ...

But I have a question, how can I find out how the iPhone had been unlocked, any clues for this?

i would just virginze the baseband and update to 1.1.1 to be safe.

How to virginize? As I explained before the virginizer stopped in the middle of the process, any other ways to virginize?

he needs to find out how it was unlocked before he virginizes, if it was unlocked with ipsf it could really mess it up....maybe why the virginization failed...

Yes, that is what I mean.
I tried it with the virginizer 3.X but it failed... no idea why, but I suspect it might be that the phone has not been unlocked with anysim...

Therefore I am searching for a way to find out which method had been used.
Anybody a clue how to perform this?

Well, if it was unlocked with IPSF, that will not do it.

To check:

1) Install BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH

2) using your favorite SSH client open a shell on the iphone. Do not forget to turn auto-lock off.

3) Stop the CommCenter:
launchctl -w unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

4) Start minicom: minicom -s

5) Then proceed to change the Serial Port device name to /dev/tty.baseband

- Scroll down to "Serial Port"
- Press "A" and retype over the serial port device name
- Press "ENTER" twice
- Scroll down to EXIT and press ENTER
- Type "AT" and press ENTER. You should get an "OK" back

6) Enter the following command:

AT+XSIMSTATE=1

The result will be something like:

+XSIM: SS
+XLOCK: "PN",X1,X2,"PU",X1,X2,"PP",X1,X2,"PC",X1,X2,"P S",X 1,X2


The only lock that matters is the PN

PN=1,0 is locked (virgin) phone or AnySim 1.1 << SAFE
PN=5,0 is IPSF "unlocked" << NOT RESTORABLE
PN=4,0 is iUnlock and siblings (unlocker and AnySim 1.0.x) << RESTORABLE


You need to virginize only if PN=4,0. If it's 1,0 you can just update the baseband. If it's 5,0, then you can still update, but someday it may cause you problems with a future upgrade.

I will bet that it is either 1,0 or 4,0. People selling unlocked phones are not using IPSF.


7) Press "Ctrl-A", "Q" and "ENTER" to exit minicom.

8) Reload CommCenter:
launchctl -w load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

9) Reboot your iPhone.

has anybody tried this? i was able to connect to my iphone via winscp but have no clue how to run these commands? is this process "safe"? any risk of messing anything up?
a version of this guide for non-experts would be nice!

i tried this and got stuck at step 3 getting an error message which ends by saying that: unknown argument '-w'...can you please be more specific with the steps. i'm using winSCP...
