Help From Canadians! Rogers SIM & Unlocked Firmware 1.0.2
BACKGROUND: Three weeks ago I unlocked my iPhone using Unlock.app and the instructions posted at http://modmyiphone.com. Yes, I had firmware 1.0.2 on board; still do, never "upgraded" to firmware 1.1.1. The unlock process went as described in the instructions, and after the unlock, I had access to all iPhone functions that didn't require a phone account.
PROBLEM: AFter unlocking the phone, I went to a Rogers store in Nova Scotia and bought a pay-as-you-go card. Then I waited for the Rogers icon to appear on my iPhone and I'm still waiting. Initially there was a problem with Rogers' online card activation process. I now have that straightened out, and have the phone number assigned to me by Rogers and a security access number. What I still don't have is a Rogers signal. I know the signal is strong enough where I am, because my brother's AT&T iPhone picks up Rogers here just fine. So, HELP!
I know 1000's of Canadians successfully use their iPhones with Rogers. My question is how? I thought a pay-as-you-go card would at least get me phone operation (I don't care about Rogers data access--I get all I need via various WI-FI networks).
I'm stumped and I know if I CALL Rogers and mention my iPhone, they'll throw up their hands and tell me it's impossible. I'd appreciate suggestions about what I should do next. If I take my Rogers SIM to a Rogers store, will they be able to slip it into another brand of phone to see if the SIM is working? Thanks in advance for advice.
