French iPhone

Hello,

This question has probably been answered before, but I couldn't find any answer. I'm going to France in a couple of days, and I was wondering if the IPhone over there is the same as the US model, or if it can be jailbroken (and eventually unlocked (guess it's 1.1.2 in the shops there now)). I'm asking since I read that there are some problems with the German phones.

Also, are they selling unlocked phones in France, or was it just a rumor?
