Detailed question on iTunes not recognizing iPhone
everybody. Excellent work team! I used to do similar stuff in the beginning of the microcomputer world, 20 years ago! Challenging eh?
OK, here is my problem. I bought two iPhones with 1.0.2. Unlock them both and they now work fine. Except, I was playing during a flight with one of them and now iTunes will not recognize it. I have the second working one, which I can compare with.
I have download the 1.0.2 original firmware, and bbupdater it and redone the unlock (BTW this time the phone remained activated; I thought it would go back to the factory setting - connect to iTunes to continue screen and so on, but it didnt).
Anyway, when I press and hold Home and pwer and get the triange, iTunes takes to Hardware Recovery and wants to install 1.1.1 on it. I stop the recovery.
I downloaded the 1.0.2 ipsw 92MB file, and it still takes me to iTunes and still wants to install 1.1.1 on it, not the ipsw file (at least I stop after the iTunes warning message).
Questions: How do I get my phone recognized?
How do I get 1.0.2 installed after I click the ipsw file properly?
I read somewhere that to recognize from iTunes you need to chmod 755 clockdown file? where is it?
I have deleted the files in the .../Library/Lockdown laptop directoriy also shown (the ones in the Library/, but as soon as iTunes starts up, they re-appear and it still doesn't get recognized. Is this one of those (I know it all but really I know nothing messages).
How does the ipsw file get installed? Encrypted? Decryption program?
My second iPhone works fine. Is there a program to copy one iPhone to the other, even via a laptop? I could do it manually but it will take forever, and am not sure the differences in flash memory that needs to be flashed, not just copied.
Thanks for the help
PS: ADVICE TO ALL: NEVER DOWNLOAD ANYONE'S SOFTWARE (AT LEAST SOFTWARE WHOSE ORIGINATOR IS UNKNOWN TO YOU) ON AN IPHONE BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS. REMEMBER THERE IS ONLY ONE COMPUTER USER ON THE IPHONE, ROOT. IN UNIX ROOT CAN MESS UP A SYSTEM IN NO TIME.

I fixed my iPhone problems by re-instalingh 1.0.2. Here is how you do this. Do not use any other procedure.
1/ Connect iPhone to Mac or PC
2/ iTunes will start and take you to the Recovery menu, with a message saying "iPhone needs to be restored"
2/ If you don't get this message, press and hold the iPhone's HOME key and the POWER SWITCH for more than 30 seconds. You should get a yellow triangle on the iPhone screen asking you to connect it to iTunes, or you should get iTunes starting up, whether you have the iPhone screen on or not.
Pressing the Apple/Command key, click on Restore. A pop up will open and you will be asked for the location of the ipsw file (the ipsw file is the basic firmware environment for the iPhone and is about 92MB in size). You should have downloaded 1.0.2 firmware and you can find this file on various websites including this one. Search for ipsw file and download 1.0.2.
The iTunes software will start to install the file. It will take a few minutes to finish. If it asks you that you should get the latest version, select cancel and click Do Not ask in the future.
After that, the iPhone will start as if out of the box. You can then proceed to re-activate it and unblock it. You can find various procedures to do this on the net, inlcuding this site.
