I'm asking about it, because I'm going to make a gift(iPhone) to my sister. She is using different PC's at home/office/travelling and iTunes too. It will be bad surprise, if cassualy she update his iPhoneQuote:

My opinion is: talk to your sister and tell her to be careful NOT to update. iTunes doesn't update the FW automatically, she needs to confirm the update and it needs to be downloaded to the computer first before the update can start, here's another chance to abort it if you accidentally activated it.
If the iPhone connects to iTunes and if iTunes connects to the internet and you need to use iTunes for buying stuff, you (or your sister) just needs to be careful.
I'm pretty sure that maybe somebody here in the forum could come up with a more sophisticated method but as soon as the 1.1.1 unlock is available, you may be in trouble since you need to reverse the steps you've taken to disable the update.
if you dont buy stuff online from itunes the best thing to do is block itunes.exe from acsessing the internet on your firewall. you will never have to worry about updates agian. i love my 1.02 so NO INTERNET FOR ITUNES on my computer...
