[B]1.1.2 OTB H/W unlock procedure succesful goes back to BL 4.6[/B]

Hi all
I finally managed to open up my 1.1.2 OTB (used a credit card to remove th metal part, no scratches, iphone lke new) and went though the whole HW unlock process described most everywhere now. Every step was performed directly from the vt100 terminal on th iphone (didn't use SSH). After the NOR file is donloaded, it ends up by asking you to run bbupdater -v and pray!. As pointed out by Geohot this command will not work so I followed the instructions and restored my 1.1.2 but when it finished I was back with the 4.02.13G bootloader just as it came OTB. This has happened to me five times in a row in the last 24 hours. It would still load the new bootloader no matter what I did. I tried restore 1.1.2 from itunes (option-restore) and select previously downloaded1.1.2 from my desktop. Then I tried option-update the same file and still no luck. Then I read maybe the nor file was the old one so I downloaded another copy. I have the one that installs from bootloader downgrade package and another downloaded from Geohot' blog and yet another from iphone-hackers.org. Also tried to option-restore 1.1.1 but it gave me a 1011 error.
So now I'm stuck and don't know where to go from here. From what I've read getting th iunew to work and download the nor to flash the3.9 bootloader is the most difficult part, but I don't seem to find a way to go on. PLease HELP!:(

Just fallow the guide to the end... (use iBrickr to boot after error, it is perfectly normal)

(to be more clear - you had 3.9 bootloader after FIRST succesful downgrade, wasted 24 hours... I know that the terminology can be confusing)

Ok that's quite encouraging but I'm alittle confused. You're saying my phone is unlocked?
So I just updated (option-update) to firmware 1.1.2 previously downloaded in my desktop and now what?

You're iPhone has two parts to the Modem, the "Baseband" and the "Bootloader". Your baseband is 4.02.13 on a new OTB 1.1.2 phone.
Your Bootloader is 4.0

The H/W unlock, is misleading because it does not actually "unlock" anything all it does is it ALLOWS you to DOWNGRADE your phone to a version which can then be unlocked.

NOTE:
A 4.02.13 Baseband with 3.9 Bootloader can be unlocked with "anySIM1.2u", However since your phone originally had the new 4.0 bootloader you needed to H/W unlock to downgrade ONLY your bootloader.

Your 4.02.13 Baseband remains the same its only your bootloader that is downgraded.

Although as a side note, when I did this it told me to restore to 1.1.2 after the bootloader is downgraded and then to again restore to 1.1.1, what this will do is give you a:
Baseband: 4.02.13
Bootloader: 3.9

Which means you will still need to use "anySIM 1.2u" to the unlock your phone. I could not get that version of anysim to work, and if it did work I could not get a signal. So what I had to do was downgrade my Baseband to 4.01.13. This then allowed me to use the original "anySIM 1.1" and it worked the first time I tried.

So when it tells you to restore to 1.1.2, don't do it, just go straight to 1.1.1, your Baseband should then be "4.01.13" and then use "anySIM 1.1" to actually UNLOCK your phone. If your baseband is not downgraded for some reason there is an application that is located under "Unlocking Tools" in the "Installer.app" called "Baseband Downgrade".

You shouldn't have any problems.

you need anySIM1.2.1u (not anySIM1.2u) to unlock the baseband 4.02.13.

Ok guys it's done. I am now the happy owner of an unlocked 1.1.2 OTB iphone which finally works as a phone with my SIM card. I think I would have spent one more week trying stuff, had FRYTHESOLID not shown up to orient me. As it turns out, I had managed to unlock the phone from my very first attempt but I just didn't know it. I kept looking at the 4.02.13G and that made me think some step had gone wrong. Well, after following the tutorials to the end I installed anysim 1.2.1u and it worked like a charm. So that's it. Thanks to everyone who answered my plead. BTW yes you can "update" to 1.1.2 after HW unlock (option-update in Mac) and it will do it's thing. No need to go to 1.1 and unlock with anysym 1.1. Good luck to everyone. I am gonna fire up a new thread with some caveats I came across which I haven't heard of in the various posts and threads.

You probably managed to downgrade your bootloader from your first attempt, not really unlocked it.

By the way, you could have saved yourself from all this trouble by spending 2-3 hours before the attempt and read the forum a little.
