1.11 Activation & Unlock made easy on Windows

Hello guys,

I have found plenty of "complicated" methods out there to address new 1.1.1 iPhones. I have also received many emails from customers asking me to tell them how to go about activating and Jb'ing 1.1.1. Apparently, most tutorials are "scary" and a bit confusing.

This is why I am posting this tutorial for noobs like me! :) I truly hope it can be of any help!

PREMISE: This applies to OTB/Virgin 1.1.1
GOAL: To have an activated-unlocked-jailbroken 1.02 (I do not consider upgrading back to 1.1.1 necessary nor worth the hassle)

TOTAL TIME NEEDED ~15 - 20 minutes

NEEDED: iTunes :rolleyes:
Internet connection :eek:
iBrickr 0.91
wiNstaller
Pacay YouTube Activation (if you care about YouTube)
lockdown file (advised to install to avoid reactivation when swapping SIM's)
iTunes Mobile Device Driver Unzip in iBrickr folder
http://iphone.exploit.org/pxl/anySIM-1.1p.pxl"] anySIM 1.1

The links above are correct... just replace *** with "r@pidsh@re" or download from anywhere else...

STEP 1 - DOWNGRADE V 1.1.1 to V 1.0.2

a. Run iTunes
b. Run iBrickr
c. You will get a message from iBrickr saying: "Looks like you're running iPhone firmware 1.1.1. ....."
d. CLICK on "See how deep the rabbit hole goes" (Gotta love Nate!)
e. Your iPhone screen will turn white
f. In iTunes, press SHIFT and click on RESTORE
g. Select the file that iBrickr just downloaded called 1.02 IPSW and click OPEN

... Let iTunes do the downgrade (it takes about 5 minutes)

Most likely you will get error 1013 at the end... just ignore and go back to iBrickr

h. Select "I have a yellow triangle, blah blah blah" and then click on "fix it"
i. Close iBrickr

STEP 2 - ACTIVATE & JAILBREAK 1.0.2 (I prefer to do this with wiNstaller since it's quicker and always works!)

a. Run wiNstallerGUI.exe (Make sure iTunes is running)
b. Click on "Activate" (Should take about 30 seconds)

Now your iPhone should be activated and jailbroken!

STEP 3 - Install ANYSIM 1.1 and then unlock

a. On your iPhone, go to Settings --> General --> Auto-Lock and set to "Never"
b. Press "Home" button to exit settings menu
c. Run iBrickr and click on Applications
d. Click on "Install PXL" and follow directions (make sure you restart the iphone twice as directed"
e. Click on "Check for PXL"
f. Select "install from PXL file"
g. Select the anySIM V1.1 file you downloaded (you must rename the downloaded file to .pxl - likely from .zip or .rar)

DO NOT INSTALL ANYSIM 1.02 - ONLY INSTALL ANYSIM 1.1

*** If your iphone does not "soft reset" and then display the anySIM icon on the menu, just turn it off and then back on and repeat steps f. & g. ***

h. On your iPhone, tap on the anySIM icon
i. Disregard warning (you can also run it with the original AT&T sim" -> Slide bar -> Scroll down and tap on "OK, Unlock My Phone" (should take 3-5 minutes)

*** You should get e message saying "Your iphone has been successfully unlocked" ***

YOU ARE DONE!!!

If you are not too tired, I recommend the following:

STEP 4 - Install lockdown file (Optional but I recommend it)

a. In iBrickr, go back to the main menu and select "Files"
b. On iPhone picture on the right, navigate to usr/ libexec/
c. Click on "Upload Files" and select the lockdown file you downloaded
d. Restart iPhone

STEP 5 - YOUTUBE activation

a. Open PACAY's folder
b. Click on "Click here - activate.bat
c. Let it finish and restart iPhone

STEP 6 - Remove the anySIM icon (Advisable if you ever have to claim warranty on your iPhone)

a. Run iBrickr
b. Click on "Applications"
c. Click on red dot on iphone pic next to anySIM
d. Restart iPhone


FINISH

This procedure has worked for me flawlessly... I hope it will do the same for you!

Thanks for this guide, it is fairly simple, but does the phone calling function work once you unlock with any sim 1.1 in 1.0.2?? I heard if you downgrade and unlock a virgin 1.1.1 the baseband or something isn't the same and you can't use the phone feature?? is this true or does anysim 1.1 override this and allow unlock and phone calling to work.....
i dont really care for 1.1.1 features, and honestly jailbreaking a 1.1.1 right now still seems kinda complicated for a n00b like me :P , I just want to be able to downgrade to 1.0.2, activate, unlock and use the full features of 1.0.2 even though my phone was a 1.1.1 out of the box....thanks for your helP!

yes this is for 1.1.1 phones that are new out of the box (virgin).
im still wondering if i can downgrade from a 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 use anysim 1.1 to unlock and have the full phone calling features as i dont care for 1.1.1 just yet...

I can tell you it'll work. So far I have already done 5 OOB 1.1.1 -> 1.0.2, and it all works.

i just used this guide, it turned my 1.1.1 Out of the box, into a 1.0.2 fully unlocked with my t-mobile sim. I know this works, and if this is the outcome you want use this guide

this guide is good too if you dont have an open wifi or a weak wifi signal...cuz u dont need wifi to stay at 1.0.2! haha thanks

Well to make it more simple:

Just remove the wiNstaller step and lockdownd step and instead put the PACAY step. It will activate your phone, copy lockdownd file and activate youtube. Then put the anysim1.1 step and thats it.

So:
1. iBrickr0.91
2. PACAY
3. anySIM1.1

And its finished

@ashmonie: anySIM1.1 is the new application which unlocks the iPhone and it doesnt damage it so you can make calls. You can even update your iPhone from 1.0.2 after youve unlocked it with anySIM1.1 and it wont brick your phone like the earlier versions. And yes the calling will work.

P.S.: I just wonder can we jailbreak the phone with iBrickr and then update it to 1.1.1 and then activate it with anySIM1.1 :)

Yes, I can confirm that all call and data functions work. Also tested on T-mobile USA. AnySIM 1.1 works on both versions 1.1.1 and 1.02 without the old patch method.

By downgrading to 1.02, you are just downgrading the software but the firmware doesn't. Essentially you end up with a 1.02 iPhone running the updated 04 Firmware.

I agree with ashomonie, the best part of this procedure is that you don't need WiFi.

About Upgranding again to 1.11... Who really needs the iTunes music store???? :cool:

I will wait for the next upgrade goodies to decide wether to do it or not.

Ibricker takes too long to activate and is often unsuccessfull. I draw this from personal experience...

wiNstaller has never failed me and it only takes about 20 seconds to complete activation and jailbreak.
