[1.1.4][Rogers] Upgrading to 2.0 > Unlock required ?

Tried a search and nothing came up. I hope my title is in the correct format.

I am wondering if the sim card lock (allowable sim cards) on an iphone 1.0 is something that would change as the firmware is updated to 2.0?
Basically, might it be possible to use an iphone 1.0 on Rogers and only have to do a fake activation? (i.e. no unlock)

My thought behind this is that the new firmware would include an updated carrier list or list of allowed service providers, given the countries where the iphone 3G has been/is being released.

since you are a noob here, Ill give you the awnser but try to read about cell phone being locked to carrier...

anyway here is the deal: You seems to be a canadian since you are with rogers. Iphone first gen wasn't sold thru rogers. So it's locked to another carrier (Most likely At&t) To use it with your sim card from rogers (the one that is in your old phone) You WILL HAVE TO UNLOCK IT. If you have already updated your phone with firmware version 2.0, then you will have to wait a week or two befor being able to unlock it since pwnage 2.0 is not out yet (maybee tomorow) anyway if your iphone is still on 1.1.X (x being the version) then you can use the lastest version of pwnage to unlock it. There is no way a sim card from rogers will work in a non-unlocked 1st gen iphone.

Thanks for the quick response. I suppose, I haven't posted here before, so that does make me a noob. I had searched on this topic using various incarnations of: rogers, unlock, sim, required? However i never came up with anything.

I have however been lurking on here for quite some time and am relatively familiar with unlocking the various FW versions (i've helped a few friends as well as unlocking mine & my wifes twice). [1.0.0 ootb ->1.1.4 & 1.1.1 ootb ->1.1.4]

Not being familiar with the technical details of how this phone is locked the the sim card of specific carriers, I only (wishfully) thought that the firmware update may have enlarged the list of allowed sim cards, as i understood happened when the iphone was released in UK, Germany, France, etc.

I'm also wondering where exactly the lock occurs. Obviously before it was with the SIM cards not being valid but if you get some new SIM from Rogers would that not work? Or are there special 3G iPhone SIMs that aren't used by any other phones?
