i'd wait for s/w unlock.
depends on how long you can wait. I couldnt so I got myself a stealthsim which works fine. If you dont want to spend money, wait for a s/w unlock. Unfortunately, we do not have any news by the dev team about any expected dates, because it is hard for them to provide us with such data.
Meantime, follow the forums and contribute if u can
seems like there are so many problems with h/w unlock. I'd just get a xxx-sim too. At least u won't need to crack open your phone to get it done.
Usually I mainly use phones as... well... you know... phones ;)
When I decided to buy the iPhone I, *first*, managed to buy a TurboSIM from Bladox's store (kept tryin' for over a month) *then* I bought the iPhone so I was fully enjoying it 45 minutes after opening it's box :)
If/when an unlock for 1.1.3 comes I'll update. If it doesn't... I haven't spent a single minute holding my breath ;)
(and, btw, this way I have two *possibilities* for updating to 1.1.3)
U've got 3 choices
1. H/W unlock.. if u don't want to spend money on some *sim and are strong enough to confront any problems / scratches on the phone... this H/w process is not really for a noob..(I exactly don't know wat it refers to .. but i believe its for newbies..)
2. *sim... if u r scared of scratching /opening ur iphone &/or don't have good skills (not enough know how) to do this.. as ppl mention... there'll be lot of surprises as u go down the H/w step and as a word of caution.. do exactly as mentioned.. if needed take extra time & MAKE SURE u know what u r doing..& is the right thing..
3. wait for S/W unlock.. how long... probably a month or more.. read this post by george on his outlook on S/w unlock.. http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/

Yeah.. I think I`m gonna get a stealthsim.
Wish We could end all those doubts about S/W unlock. But It seemms that`s It might not even come.

he, i didnt know anything about hacking the iphone, so i simple bought a NEXT SIM 2 and inserted it after the whole activating&jailbreaking thing!
iphone running 1.1.2 jailbroken, then insert next sim 2, voila!
no need for additional software/hardware! ...if u live outside of us, install iworld!
