[1.1.1 (1.0.2 OTB)] virginize vs restore?

Hi I want to use ziphone but i want to do it from a "clean" iphone since i dont know what was used to unlock my phone (have read anysim can brick your phone or lead to malfuctions). So before I use ziphone, should I virginize and then update to 1.1.3 with itunes before ziphone or can I just simply DFU restore to 1.1.3. What is the "cleanest" way to do it in order to prevent any glitches in the process?
Also, I have ziphone 2.4 but I don't see where there is an option for a command line. I have been reading that command line is "safer" than using the checkboxes.

Cleanest and quickest way is to put your iPhone to DFU, SHIFT + RESTORE via i tunes to 1.1.3, use ZiPhone or eTiPhone (cleaner GUI) from http://ziphoneold.blogspot.com/ and do it ....

BTW : there is NO OPTION for command mode, (if you using windows) you should start / run Command prompt, tnen navigate to unziped ziphone folder (eg: C:\zipnone), ant THAN use command interface :

Full usage summary:

ziphone -j = Jailbreak
ziphone -a = Activate
ziphone -u = Unlock (Works on both BL3.9 and BL4.6)
ziphone -e = Erase Baseband (BL 3.9 only)
ziphone -b = Downgrade Bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9, update baseband to 4.03.13 and patch the unlock.

ziphone -D: Enter DFU Mode.
ziphone -R: Enter Recovery Mode.
ziphone -N: Exit Recovery Mode (normal boot).
ziphone -C: Make coffee (checks MD5 sums on included DAT files)

Use -a -j -u to activate, jailbreak and unlock.

no idea. all i know is that it was 1.0.2 OTB because its week 37. I bought it when it was already 1.1.1 and unlocked. Doesn't the restore to 1.1.3 "erase" everything anyways? I was doubting this so therefore I was thinking about virginizing first and then update to 1.1.3...

Unlocking was most likely done with AnySim or IUnlock .... (Mine first was week 32 and ulocked first on 1.0.2 with iUnlock, then up to 1.1.1 and AnySim 1.1, then up to 1.1.2 and AbySIM 1.1.2u, at the moment 1.1.3 with AnySIM 1.3 and 04.03BB, since i have BL 3.9)

Yes, new 04.03 baseband seems to be healing and resurect dead basebands :) , and seems to cleen up, well ... most of the mess from previous unlock, and i think that you should be fine (by my personal expirience, i had 4-5 iPhone fixed only by RESTORING to 1.1.3 ...), hope this answer your question ?

And IT IS a good idea to check this

To check:

1) Install BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH

2) using your favorite SSH client open a shell on the iphone. Do not forget to turn auto-lock off.

3) Stop the CommCenter:
launchctl -w unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

4) Start minicom: minicom -s

5) Then proceed to change the Serial Port device name to /dev/tty.baseband

- Scroll down to "Serial Port"
- Press "A" and retype over the serial port device name
- Press "ENTER" twice
- Scroll down to EXIT and press ENTER
- Type "AT" and press ENTER. You should get an "OK" back

6) Enter the following command:

AT+XSIMSTATE=1

The result will be something like:

+XSIM: SS
+XLOCK: "PN",X1,X2,"PU",X1,X2,"PP",X1,X2,"PC",X1,X2,"P S",X 1,X2


The only lock that matters is the PN

PN=1,0 is locked (virgin) phone or AnySim 1.1 << SAFE
PN=5,0 is IPSF "unlocked" << NOT RESTORABLE
PN=4,0 is iUnlock and siblings (unlocker and AnySim 1.0.x) << RESTORABLE


You need to virginize only if PN=4,0. If it's 1,0 you can just update the baseband. If it's 5,0, then you can still update, but someday it may cause you problems with a future upgrade.

I will bet that it is either 1,0 or 4,0. People selling unlocked phones are not using IPSF.


7) Press "Ctrl-A", "Q" and "ENTER" to exit minicom.

I was able to install WinSCP and connect to my iphone. However, once in there I had no clue how to perform all those commands. And to be honest, I was afraid to trail and error. Is there a guide for non-experts explaining this process out there? Is there a risk of messing anything up while performing these steps?
Also, why is an IPSF unlock listed as"not restorable". Isn't that "bad"? Isn't ziphone IPSF?

Also, correct me if im wrong. But dfu-restore to 1.1.3 will ONLY work if I the used unlocked method was anysim 1.1 or higher? I'm deducing this since anysim 1.0.x and siblings would require a virginization and IPSF is "non restorable".

Yes, AnySIM patches the your Baseband and therefore can not survive BB upgrade, and that is why we have AnySim 1,1; AnySIM 1.2u(p), AnySIM 1.3 ... etc ... but since bootlaoder which is responsible for uploading/upgading baseband dedects that there is NO UPGRADE eg. 1.1.2 on 1.1.2 on 4.02.BB AnySIM maye survive, hence IPSF, yes it is update resistant since its patches your SECZONE (therefore after performing first and only IPSF style unlock (GeoHot IPSF) you need to backup your ipsf folder (multiple backups) in order to retrive your original SECZONE, and for that, you sholud check this thread :

thanks yuhackman. geez i dont know if im making it way more complicated than it should be. i guess i will virginize just to be "safe". then dfu-restore to 1.1.3 and then ziphone. that should work unless i already have an ipsf style unlock right? in that case, will virginize just give me an error or do i risk bricking?
