Potentially a new Approach to unlock 1.1.2 ??
T-mobile Germany is selling factory Unlocked Iphones. If someone were able to get a back-up of one of those units, wouldn't it be possible to use the restore function to unlock 1.1.2 units ?

i doubt it would be that easy
although this may be the best place to start to try and find an unlock solution...

i think some pupil are creating new accounts and post stupid things on purpose... srsly
-
Jakez --- i don't think my idea is 'stupid '.
All the current firmware versions available from apple are sim specific to AT&T or others and having this factory unlocked firmware would be beneficial IMHO.

im pretty sure that anybody who knows (dev team, elite team) how to hack an iphone is well aware of this possibility and we dont need another 100 threads posting the same ideas or really any more ideas. Our ideas arent going to help because the the devs are already aware of these ideas and are much smarter then most of the poeple who post on these forums when it comes to iphone hacking.
SO STOP WITH THESE STUPID THREADS!

At lease put a 'QUESTION MARK' (?) in the title of your thread.

I see your point, the title is misleading. I'll try to edit it .

The problem is that you CAN'T change the baseband and/or bootloader with restore... (well, you can't downgrade the baseband without ierase it, to be precise)
And even if you could, the new bootloader wouldn't let you update the baseband to unlock it... (with standard tools like anysim/ieraser)
So no, this idea will not work...
Dev-team / Elite-team are working on it... just sit tight and wait
and don't forget to donate after a solution has been found...

Guys,
The truth is, at the moment, we havnt a clue HOW these phones are unlocked!! All we know is that iTunes will detect you IMEI and unlock the phone for you.
Does it send a code to the phone that matches the hashed code in the nor?? Does is send certificates (PEM Files) to the phone specific to your phone which tell it to be unlocked??
We honestly do not know so at the moment we cannot say what will work and what will not work.
