Default pay monthly o2 iphone edge settings?

hi, i have a OOB 1.1.2 iphone from the UK which i have jailbroken and activated.

i have an o2 pay monthly sim (not the iphone tariff) in the phone, but i cant seem to get edge to work

i have the box and sometimes the E symbol as well, but each time i try to use it, safari or whatever cannot find server

it was working a while ago, then i used services.app to disable it. i tried re-enabling it and its never worked since then

    any ideas? thanks

    your apn settings in settings/general/network/edge
    should be
    apn: mobile.o2.co.uk
    username: faster or o2web
    password: password

the faster username bypasses the compressors

You can't change the settings on 1.1.2. It changed a great deal from 1.1.1.

As far as I'm aware, nobody has been able to get EDGE or even just GPRS to work for O2 Pay As You Go under 1.1.2. yet.

Yes, you can change the EDGE settings on 1.1.2 - you just can't do it from the phone itself. If you SSH into a jailbreaked handset, you need to edit the O2_UK.plist file, which stores the EDGE settings. To get the new settings to take effect, you need to reboot the phone without a SIM, then reboot again with the O2 SIM in, and reset the phone settings. I have an O2 Simplicity SIM, and EDGE works fine with 1.1.2 using this method - set APN to "mobile.o2.co.uk", username to "faster" and password to "web".

If you don't edit the O2_UK plist, you will be using the username "vertigo" and the password "password", which are the defaults for iPhone users on O2. Probably best not to use these on an unactivated iPhone... ;-)

    so i do this:
    1) edit the plist
    2) turn off phone and remove sim
    4) turn on again, then off
    5) put sim back in, then turn on
    6) then reset phone settings?

    correct???

and will the final step remove music, and other installed apps??

    thanks, works great

although gprs seems slow (no edge network at home, although there is in the nearest town, about 2 miles away)
