Default Can I get data in Panama?

I have been traveling in Central America the past few months and have been able to use my iPhone for voice by buying a local SIM. It has worked in Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama. However, I can't get data without signing up for a long term plan. I'm using a Movil SIM in Panama but of course, can't use GPS, Maps, etc. Is there any way to get data without being a permanent resident with any carrier in Panama? Thanks.

Default Does iphone work with full features in panama?

I just moved here from the USA. I can't get a straight answer from either Movil or Movistar whether iPhone works like the States here. Everybody is using Blackberrys!

Can someone tell me which company offers the best service. I just want to purchase a new iPhone 4 here and get started.

    Thanks

the official iphone operator in panama is Telefonica, however they don't have the iphone 4 available yet and i dont know how much time will it take, the fastest solution for you right now is to get a 3gs from them or get one from the states and unlock it so you can use it with any of the four operators locally

    Default iPhone Panama

As mentioned Movistar is the official carrier in Panama.

You can see the plans here: Movistar - Telefnica moviles

I have the $50 plan that includes 345 outgoing min (incoming free) 150 SMS and 250mb data (which I've never broken as a lot of places have wifi).

They do not have the iphone 4 yet but the 3gs 32gig is avaialble and is around $500 with contract (and one of the plans like I have). I'm sure the 4g will be around the same price once it gets here.

Now if you have an unlocked iphone from the states or elsewhere Movistar will put you in the same iphone plan (they don't care that it was not bought from them).

To activate any of these plans visit the Movistar office on Via Espaņa next to Arocha (corner of Via Brazil).

Now as also mentioned blackberries are SUPER popular here so you don't see a lot of iPhones. If you are just want cheap data access you are unfortunately better off getting a blackberry. There are 4 phone carriers here and they are all doing free BB and plans from $30 / month with some minutes and unlimited data. It's really ridiculously cheap.

    Hi,
Digicel Panama offers unlimited data for 30 days - $14.95 (PREPAID) and it works for my iphone.
As soon as i can, i will get an iphone 4 from the US and unlock it.
I had an iphone for 3 years and never needed the data service since wifi is everywhere. The government even provide free wifi service in some places of panama. But ios 4 is multitasking =D so im going to need data service.

Also recommend the unlimited data service for $10.00 a month with MasMovil if you own an iphone in panama. But this one only applies if you already have an iphone (probably from the US or, the chinese people in "El Dorado" mall. (They sell unlocked iphones)

On digicell do you have full access to the app store? What about push services?

Also you mention the Mas Movil option. Do you know anyone who has tried this? What about the items above? Finally why do you say "this option you need your own iPhone" this would be true for both providers no?
