I am planning to go to France during Christmas. Is it possible to buy an iphone 1.1.2 OOTB from UK and get it unlocked in France?

Can someone please advise on this? Do I need any french id for the sim card? How can I get it unlocked once there. Any help would be appreciated.

PS : Before anyone says, I have tried to search but all in vain. I would appreciate for you help.

Anyway the answer is no, you have to buy a French iphone from Orange and specifically the unlocked package at around €650 (£462). Orange then send the phones IMEI to Apple, you then activate the phone through itunes and itunes recognises that IMEI is registered is to be unlocked and your phone is updated with the official unlock within a few days.

There is no way to transfer any other phone from different territories etc and Orange will not unlock your UK O2 iphone, the only way to have an unlocked phone at the moment is to spend €650 in France.

Alternatively you could use a 'Turbo Sim' to use any sim in your UK O2 iphone. Search the forum for more info or Google it.
