Hey! I read different info!
I am getting an iphone this week from the store OOTB
its not unlockable i know that, but is there a way to go around?

lets say to downgrade it and upgrade it to 1.1.1(or1.1.2)
i just need it to work as a phone?

all info would be GREATLY appreciated!

Quick summary:

1.1.2 CANNOT BE UNLOCKED. END OF STORY. <-- Well, as of now.
DOWNGRADE TO 1.1.1 THEN UPGRADE TO 1.1.2 TO BE ABLE TO RUN 3RD PARTY PROGRAMS AS WELL AS PHONE FEATURES. (iPod, Safari.... etc.)

EDIT: Forgot to add... 'CANNOT BE UNLOCKED' means you can't dial or receive phone related functions. *Calls, SMS... etc.*

I think that you can unlock it for the original sim carriers cards, e.g If from usa then A&T pay as you go. Correct me if I am wrong.

You can use it as a phone with a SIM proxy (check the other subforum) or by reprogramming the flash memory (which is not possible for most users)

the iphone 1.1.2 cannot be unlocked !!!! full stop

however it can be jail-broke and activated go to the link it will explain. so say you are in the UK and you brought an OOB 1.1.2 in an apple store, you could then jailbreak it and activate it as explained in the link below. after you have activated it you can then put any 02 sim into the iphone and it should work with all of the phone features.

so you cannot fully unlock the iphone 1.1.2 but you can make it work with specific carriers. GO TO THE LINK BELOW AND READ IT !!!!
