what i read theres nothing with manual code entering. you get your IMEI registered with apple and then the phone gets unlocked in itunes (like activation?).

If this is that simple, can one from outside germany connects via proxy (one able to handshake SSL connections) to Appel servers using iTunes and see what happens? If they are only asking to plug iPhone, open iTunes and you're good, something's fishy...

this is where it gets interesting
1)do you enter a code?? if yes how, if you do enter a code what happens after you enter the code, is your phone immediately unlocked or it goes into a restore mode like state asking you to connect to itunes??
2)is the unlock permanent??
3)if the unlock is done through itunes then what info itunes sends to apple. (actually does someone know what information is sent to apple when you connect an otb/restored phone to itunes)
4)what files does itunes download on to your computer..
the more i think about it...the more it seems that it would be a two step procedure where you enter a code and your phone becomes unlocked and when you connect to itunes apple checks your imei againt a list of imei's and skips the activation stage.
or it would be via itunes only (might be a demi permanent lock like the new anysim) with the activation check against imei

it seems to work automagically via itunes. t-mobile registers your IMEI with apple. you get unlocked via itunes (like activation?). unlock should be permanent as they describe it. to see what information gets send we'd need an communication log. sadly i know noone who owns a t-mobile iphone. and i'm not that rich that i'd purchase one just for testing.

How do you know its automatically?

they wouldn't want to make it permanent though. incase someone finds out how its done
does anyone know for sure if itunes sends your imei to apple when you connect to it...
