Default Force (deleting/replace) the 1.1.1 baseband

I came across this on the 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 downgrade page:

    Force (deleting/replace) the 1.1.1 baseband - by jszeto222/maomaofong2005

By corrupting the BB Firmware during the 1.1.1 restore!

Method, unplug usb during middle of the Firmware upgrading part!

Result to Corrupt/missing baseband, therefore possible on replacing baseband on to it, at lease 1.1.1, as upgrade from 1.0.2 may not got you a clean 1.1.1 firmware!

Doing this would allow you for a clean firmware for those upgraded from unlocked 1.0.2! If success, it will simply show on display "Repair Needed" iPhone cannot make or receive call!

Also will show no WiFi + no detail made Empty on Baseband version in About page !

    http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1337/...174aef.jpg?v=0 Image - No WiFi

    http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1164/...c67a8f.jpg?v=0 Image2 - No Firmware Detail

Because I didn't notice anything obviously mentioned in this fourm, I thought I would post this to bring it up. Does this actually work? Is this allow one more step towards downgrading the baseband???

I'm trying it right now with an anysim bricked phone. It would be incredible if it is this easy.

If this does work, it might depend on unplugging at just the right moment.

Holy shit. I'm still getting an incorrect sim message, but my IMEI is displaying correctly again.

Wait. I just restarted the phone and IMEI is back to 0049...

So, is the fact that the IMEI was fixed for a second significant?

To what I've read, it seems that this somehow wipes the baseband, allowing for after the downgrade to reflash the baseband with the 1.0.2's baseband. At least I think that is the jest of it.....

during a 1.1.1 restore the modem firmware is not reflashed as it is not an update so I doubt this will work

I think the phone always shows the correct IMEI when it doesnt have a sim in it, but when you put in a sim it should show 0004... one!

What I think he means is to completely rewrite the BB so the modified baseband from unlocked 1.0.2's can be upgraded to 1.1.1 and not have Activation Limbo. I don't think he's talking about downgrading to 1.0.2 at all.

Interesting. It looks like it depends on timing, as it probably needs to be done while something is mucking around in the BB. Anyone trying it? I may have to give this a look later...

[EDIT] Oh, well, maybe I should wait.

    From the Wiki:
I bricked my phone with this... it's totally dead... screes stays black...

We need a USB sniffer to find out at what time the BB firmware is being modified/checked during the restore
