    Default Non AT&T: intermitent carrier disconnection anyone ?

    I'm experiencing intermitent carrier disconnection.

    Carrier signal is lost, usually for just a couple of seconds, sometimes for up to 30s, then it's back.

    Anyone experiencing the same ?

    Hello,

    I have the same problem: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10834

    But it's more tricky with me:

    I have tried 6 different SIM cards.
    a) 4 of them is from the same operator (bite gsm), all prepaid
    b) other 2 is from different operators (omni gsm, tele2), both not prepaid

    b) allways shows same things -> full signal, operator name, 'E' logo, no signal, no operator name, "NO SERVICE", again full signal, operator name, 'E' logo, no signal... and so on forever.

    a) 2 cards from 4 shows excactly the same problems, as mentioned above. The other 2 is interesting. They WORKED with no problems ! Till yesterday, when I've tried to install navicon from installer and after uninstall, one of those 2 working (that was at this moment in the iphone) start to act excactly the same as other ones - loosing signal etc.
    Thus one SIM card from all works till now, and works great, in/out calls, in/out sms, I only can't get GPRS to work, anyway it's prepaid card, and maybe I'm missing something about GPRS settings.. we'll see.

    I would like to check the difference between those SIM cards, maybe they differ in versions or something, but I don't know how.

    P.S. I will try to call my provider and ask them to check my iPhone IMEI number, because some people in this forum talks that IMEI number must be registered with provider in order to work.

    P.S.S. With all bad-working SIM cards, mentioned above I can make out calls almost anytime i want, but I can't make calls to iPhone (not online messages from operator etc...), i can't send or receive SMS messages (well I've sent one SMS message out of maybe 100, and i've received couple SMS messages when I was talking on iPhone (outgoing call) ).

    That's about all.
    It's really messy problem, because I can't use my normal SIM card...

    Does anyone know how to solve this ?

    Hi,

    I downgraded a virgin 1.1.1 baseband and used AnySim to unlock, worked likea charm!
    The provider showed up nicely and I couls make calls but the same issue as you guys has cropped up...NO SERVICE shows up after every minute or so, I can still make phone calls send sms and surf on gprs but this is annoying..am missing calls by the dozen.

    The only commonality i see here is I too tried Navizon and it froze my phone once.

    other than that my initial assesment is that once you downgrade you can kiss your phone function good bye!

    And get on with life!

    devinferno, I'm not sure at all that's the cause for our problem, but I also used Navizon, and it also crashed at me.

    Don't remember any carrier disconnection BEFORE I used verizon.

    Now that could just be because phone worked for the first couple of hours, before I even knew about verizon, but without being linked to verizon.

    Just an update:

    I've just called my provider and asked them about registering, blocking, or whatever else with IMEI, and they told me, that IMEI doesn't have to be registered, they assured me that IMEI doesn't have anything to do with my problems of intermitent carrier disconnection.
    I'll try to renew my SIM card, because that's what provider sugested to do (and there is some logic, because 3 or even 4 SIM cards of those that I've tested is more that 2 years old), and then I'll report back about success or not

    The only one strange thing about my problem is that ONE (1) sim cards of six (6) works just perfect with no problems at all.

    And ALL the other ones (i've tested so far) just keep loosing carrier, then regaining etc...

    My only guess is that this iPhone doesn't works with some specific SIM card version... but i don't know how to test it because I don't know how to determine SIM card version.

    Maybe anyone can help ?

    Thanks

    I've noticed one more thing:

    The only SIM card that works with no problem on my iPhone doesn't show 'E', I suppose GPRS or EDGE is disables for this SIM cards, and that's the reason it works without problems.
    Because all other SIM cards shows 'E' with the carrier name, and,
    if I'm trying to open web page, or youtube or anything else who needs connection at the exact moment when the 'E' appears for a few seconds, BUMP - connectino is here, I can wath youtube or any webpage for a moment, till carrier is gone again.

    And when I'm making a call from my iPhone 'E' disappears for a period of my call. And when the call is finished - 'E' appears again, and then starts all this "intermitent carrier disconnection" issue...

    For now, my only guess is that the modem of my iPhone doesn't understant what to do with GSM and (or) GPRS/EDGE signals at the same time.

    Please, anyone from senior members or dev team - HELP

    OdynOOb,

    Any luck in solving this problem of Yours ?

    I've managed to turn off the EDGE service completely on my iPhone,

    1. Went to /private/var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
    2. Downloaded preferences.plist
    3. On 11 line from the top there is:
    <dict>
    <key>AllowNetworkAccess</key>
    <integer>1</integer>
    <key>Available</key>
    <integer>1</integer>
    <key>Setup</key>
    <dict>
    <key>apn</key>
    <string>wap</string>
    <key>password</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>username</key>
    <string></string>
    </dict>
    4. Changed this to:
    <dict>
    <key>AllowNetworkAccess</key>
    <integer>0</integer>
    <key>Available</key>
    <integer>0</integer>
    <key>Setup</key>
    <dict>
    <key>apn</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>password</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>username</key>
    <string></string>
    </dict>
    <key>Version</key>
    <integer>1</integer>
    </dict>

    5. 'E' doesn't appears anymore , EDGE/GPRS isn't working anymore, but intermitent carrier disconnection is still there

    Please help anyone !
