On 'NO SERVICE' solution
Hello,
I got myself an iPhone [1.1.1], unlocked it using juanpa tutorial and used it without any problems for 1 week. I'm in India and my service provider is 'Idea Cellular'
After a week, suddenly I had no service, and my phone never caught the signal again.
-It doesn't not matter which SIM card I insert, my phone just does not acknowledge the SIM card, on restart it just says 'searching for network' and then goes dead with 0 bars.
-My speakers do not work, I can only hear any sounds from my headphones; At times it I cannot hear anything from the headphones as well, and I have to restart for my headphones to be operational again
-If I check my firmware version using Field Test\Versions I see a blank
-The carrier has disappeared from Settings menu
The only thing I remember doing a day before, I had the 'no service' cancer, was to connect to iTunes and copy some music to my iPhone.
So I researched on this forum, and have seen many folks having this issue wherein they get no service directly after unlocking or a week or two after normal use post unlocking
From all the threads, listed below are the potential set of causes to the 'no service issue'
-On connecting to iTunes, iTunes updated the firmware, baseband
-I somehow have a corrupt baseband
-Loose contact with SIM and iPhone h\w
-Some h\w issues with the commboard
-Excessive heating of the phone h\w
-IMEI being blocked by carrier
-AnySIM 1.1 corrupting the baseband s\w using unlocking?
Users like botolo86, hugerbots, skipzilla, exiledsurfer as well as many senior members and the DEV team seem to have made tremendous efforts to find a complete solution to the problem
Here are some potential solutions I came across, which have worked for some and not worked for others
1-SIM Tray tinkering: Bend the SIM card tray for better SIM card with iPhone H\W
2-Fridge Method
: Put the phone in the fridge! to see if the cooler conditions help the phone in catching a signal
3-Airplane method
4-Reflash the baseband and unlock using pacay or iUnlock
5-Reflash baseband+restore phone software, and carry out the entire unlocking process again
6-Unblock IMEI
I've tried 1, I won't try try 2
, I called the carrier regarding 6, they don't block IMEI, so I'm about to get into attempts at 4 and 5, or perhaps see If I can get lucky with 3
Has any other reliable solution, been found as yet, that I might not be aware of?
Any inputs advise would help, as I venture into solutions 4 & 5, completely unsure of whether they would help or not. Also I'm wary of the limit on unlock attempts.

Me too cursed with 'No service'
Hi Alwyn,
I also am using(trying to use, actually) the Iphone here in India. Am on 1.1.1. I want it to work with Airtel but am, like so many now, cursed with 'No service'
Have virginised and re-unlocked like 5 times or more , but the phone works fine for about a day or so and then goes back into 'no service'.
So this is some of what I have done so far,
1. FYI, i used jailbreakme.com to activate and jailbreak the phone, and then installed anysim from iphone.blurgle.ca/repo source. The first time I started getting it, I just restored the phone(just restored it, did not virginize it) and it started working, worked for a day or so and went back into 'No service'
2. Next time, I restored but it didn't help, so I virginized it using 'i.unlock.no' virginizer and restored it and again went through the entire process of jailbreaking(used jailbreakme.com), activation and unlock(anysim 1.1 from i.unlock.no), this time i read in some forum which instucted to manually upload the lockdownd file to get it to work, did that, didn't quite get the logic of it as jailbreakme already activates the phone, it again worked for a few hours and then relapsed.
By this time I had read in forums that people thought that maybe it was a heat issue or excessive wifi use that caused the problem(my phone too does get pretty warm when i use the wifi for long hours) so this is what i did the third time,
3. Again virginsed-->restored-->blah, blah, blah-> unlocked. But this time after unlocking i did not sync it to Itunes, did not use wifi(so no songs and no internet on iphone, u can imagine, owning an iphone but no internet and no music), this time again the phone worked well almost for 2 days and then was back to 'No service'
4. So yesterday night, after all the above mentioned dilemma, i again set back to do something, but this time instead of going through the entire virginize->restore->jailbreak->activate->unlock routine, i used onesim to undo anysim and then again anysimed it(kept the AT & T sim in the sim tray during both one sim and anysim, don't ask why, had read again on some forum, didn't quite get the logic again, but did it anyways). This time after it finished with all the processes, i put in a sim from BSNL(another cellular operator in India), it didn't work.
Frustrated, I put the phone in airplane mode and let it charge, after about 4-5 hours, i turned off the airplane mode and phone went into searching mode and came back with full signals(with the bsnl sim).
Again, I had read in forums that some people thought that the phone went into 'no service' when the phone's battery levels fell below some level, So yesterday after my phone started showing full signal and as the battery was fully charged, I decided to drain my battery, so I turned on wifi, bluetooth, installed ssh and kept it'on' too(as it is known to be a battery drainer), installed a whole lot of apps, let battery drain to 10% but the phone showed full signal during the entire test drive
.
So finally after all this, kept the phone on charging and went to sleep, used the phone today the whole day without any problems(with the bsnl sim) and in the evening just decided to put in the Airtel sim in the evening, as soon as i put it in the phone went back into searching and came back with 'no service'
and has been on this dreaded message ever since,
So anybody, please suggest any more solutions that i can try out,
anyways, i'd like some people who have the patience to let go of thier iphones for a few hours, to put it in airplane mode and let it charge for few hours and then switch off the airplane mode, does this get your network back?
Good day,
nochinta

If you are in this 'No Service'-state, and go to Settings->General-> About, can you still see you're baseband-version, IMEI and ICCID?
Do you have this problem with 03.14.08, 04.01.13 and 04.02.13 ?
Otherwise you might try a different baseband...
-
In Settings\General\About I can only see Version as 1.1.1(3A109a). This should be the version of the firmware
I cannot see any specific baseband version, IMEI, or ICCID
In FieldTest\Firmware Version, I cannot see anything either
It would show 04.01.13_G, before I unlocked the phone.

If you have WiFi still working, put bbupdater on the phone somewhere, then run "bbupdater -v" at the command line.
It should give you the baseband version you are using. Find the secpack for that version, use ieraser to erase the baseband and then reflash it with the 1.0.2 baseband (03.14.08_G), then use iTunes to restore the phone to 1.1.1.
Post if that does or does not work for you.

sounds to me like you probly bricked it!!! did you have 1.0.2 and updated it to 1.1.1? if i was u id probly just virginize it and start over

With regard to revirginizing.
Do you perform the revirginizing when the phone has 1.1.1 or do you force a Restore with the power+home buttons, put 1.0.2 and THEN do a virginization?
I'm a bit confused here. At the moment I'm stuck with a 1.1.1 locked phone, trying to get it back to 1.0.2 but iTunes unpacks the file then immediately generates an unexpected error and closes.

I too will try to downgrade my baseband and put phone back on 1.0.2 to see if it works out as all my attempts to somehow repair it while being on 1.1.1 have proved to be futile, just wanted to keep it on 1.1.1 as all the new apps being made work only on 1.1.1,
Also whenever i put it in airplane mode for few hours and let it charge and then turn the mode back off, this makes it work for sometime, before it returns to 'no service'

Ya right, as soon as i choose the 1.0.2 restore file itunes throws an error but proceeds without any probs with 1.1.1 restore, am sure there must be some solution, will search for it tonight.
By the way, I do run the virginizing script directly on my iPhone by installing them through I.unlock.no in installer app.
