'NO service' after one week of normal usage post activation
Guys,
I used juanpa74 tutorial to unlock and activate my phone 1.1.1 last week, and have been using my phone ever since.
Yesterday I had a peculiar problem; My calls wouldn't go through; I realized that my phone was not catching my local network for some reason
-The phone no longer identifies my local carrier
-Under Settings\General I cannot see my local carrier
Is there a way, I can explicitly invoke searching of local carrier's?
Has anyone seen this problem before? Do excuse me if I'm missing something obvious

Try the following:
With phone OFF insert att sim.
open phone
Remove att sim with phone ON and insert local carrier sim "while phone is ON"
wait a min..and it should work

Thanks for your help.
I tried you steps, it did not work.
Is there a possibility that there is some loose contact between the SIM and the phone h\w?
My phone seems to barely understand or react when SIM cards are going in and out of it
When I restart the phone, it just says 'searching....' and then goes flat with no service. Same behaviour irrespective of whether I restart the phone with or without a SIM

I am having the same problem except mine happened after one day. I am being told it is a issue to do with how you hack it, I am frantically trying to find a solution. What hacking method did you use?

Yea I've tried that. As soon as you replace the sim card you get a full signal but after about a minute it intermittently goes between 'No Service' and a signal. I was going to try simFREE to unlock the phone which you have to pay for but perhaps a better result?

Are people who have the "No service" several days after they unlocked their iphones thinking it may not be because unlocking but just it is an issue with the iphone itself?
It could be or it could not be. I mean of course people who unlocked and have the problem will post here... this is the unlocking area of the forum. I don't read any other forums outside the hacking ones.
Maybe normal AT&T customers who never unlocked or jailbreak are having the same issue.Who knows?
Or can you just confirm it doesn't happen to them?
Thanks.

Yes I fear it could be a problem with the phone itself. I unlocked it with no hiccups; and used it with no issues for the first week.
And suddenly it stopped funtioning.
The only thing I did in between was to sync the iPhone for music on my laptop; and I made sure I was disconnected from the internet just to be safe
I fear that it might be a problem with the phone. I'm in trouble, if that's the case, for I'm in India, and I doubt I'll get anyone to fix any h\w problems around here.
I'm thinking of restoring the firmware 1.1.1 and unlocking it again
, I'm not sure if it would help but it's the only thing I can think of right now
Any suggestions?
Perhaps we should also somehow figure out with it happens to normal At&T phones which have not been jailbroken

moonlover your instructions very pretty clear; I did try it with my phone ON. It did not work

Is there any simple way by which I can confirm that the phone is able to read the SIM?
My phone seems to be behaving the same way irrespective of whether it has a SIM card in it or not

I had this issue a loooong while back when I had done the hardware unlock. I had accidentally bent the sim tray and my sim card was making poor contact. Check the tray.
