Recently I have noticed the E icon does not come up. Why is it? I have had 1.1.2, upgraded from 1.1.1 for around two weeks and it was there to the other day. My data plan is going to be active soon so I want to make sure its going to work.

if you dont have EDGE i doubt it will come on. Also make sure your APN is in there right.

I activated the plan and entered the APN. After trying different combos of APN, password, and username- it still never turns on.

under 1.1.2 there comes with GPRS just the Icon, with EDGE the E will show up, no Network no icon.
Even without APN the iPhone will show EDGE or GPRS.

Its because Firmware v1.1.1 doesn’t have the functionality to distinguish between EDGE and GPRS like v1.1.2 does.

You mite notice YouTube doesn't work on 1.1.2 but use to on 1.1.1? Thats Because 1.1.1 shows (E) even when it had GPRS Connected so YouTube worked.

I am roaming currently in Prague and I have the EDGE icon without the E in it, its just a blue square. Is this what you guys are talking about? It means I am not on EDGE, but GPRS only?

it's not a rule. i unlocked a lot of upgraded 1.1.2 and sometimes I got the blue square with E in it and other times only the blue square (even with the same settings and same carriers). Also, on some phones I don't have the Edge menu in settings/general/network and on others I do although I use the same jalbreak/unlock method.. It's very strange..

i face the same problem on 1.1.2 coming from unlocked 1.1.1 everthing worked fine.

I would suggest first contacting your network Provider and find out if they have EDGE coverage.

If the answers is YES then I would think you have a APN settings problem or maybe the "Three File override Fix" will work.

I've contacted VodafoneUK today and they have told me they have no coverage for EDGE in the UK on the network?

Running 1.1.2 with GPRS works on All Apps except YouTube, However the YouTube App would actually run on GPRS if new firmware didn't see the difference between the two connections like it doesn't on 1.1.1.

A fix is needed for this problem but don't let people suggest the "Three File override" for this because the problem we all had on 1.1.1 isn't the same problem we now have on 1.1.2.
