[The NEW ultimate unlocking FAQ] Read this before asking questions!
The following FAQ tells you exactly what you need to do in order to get YOUR iPhone up and running, with the latest firmware, fully unlocked (which means that you'll be able to make pone calls)
[How to check which version I have?]
Look at the bottom back of your iPhone, you'll see a Serial No. The 4th and 5th number is the week of production, and it'll tell you which firmware version/bootloader you have:
< 37: 1.0.2 or earlier out of the box.
37 - 43: 1.1.1 out of the box.
43 - 01: 1.1.2 ouf the box.
01 >: 1.1.3 out of the box
[1.1.3 or 1.1.2 out of the box]
It doesn't matter if you have the 16GB or 8GB version, this'll work for both. Follow this guide http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=649
[1.1.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.1 or 1.0.0 out of the box]
First you need to upgrade to a jailbroken and unlocked 1.1.2 firmware. In order to do that, follow this guide: http://iphone.unlock.no/#Bypass-Acti...-and-Jailbreak. Do not follow the 1.1.3 update part there, but stop after you unlocked 1.1.2. Read the tutorial carefully btw, as it tells you some important things about upgrading an already unlocked 1.0.2 (if you happen to have an unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone, that part is qute important).
After following that guide, soft-upgrade to 1.1.3 by following this guide: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=611 and then, finally, upgrade the baseband and unlock the iPhone by following this guide: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=635
NOTE: If you follow the instruction stated above, the iPhone will be unlocked with AnySIM 1.3. There is also another unlock method available, IPSW Remixed by GeoHot, though that one is more difficult and harder to restore then something goes wrong. Just use this one and read everything carefully, it works perfectly.

Remember that GeoHot's method is ONLY for BL 4.6!
Software / Baseband / Bootloader / OTB Week

Great work guys...
just need a teeny clarification....
I own a 1.1.2 OTB iPhone i.e. 1.1.2 / 04.02.13_G / 4.6 /
but i've jailbreaked it to 1.1.1 ....can I run the unlock directly on this firmware ? (or do i have to upgrade it to 1.1.2 first)
Thanks for the addition! Because I want to keep this n00b friendly I only added a simple version of you post to the FAQ (which I think gives exactly enough information to find out which guide one needs to use)

I do not think this is correct, how can you have the airplane mode on and wifi running at the same time to run the iclarified installer technique? I tried it on tree different iphones, all 1.1.2 otb with bt. 4.6 with the sime of my operator in them. One of the tree was accidentally upgraded to 1.1.3 through itunes. All tree worked fine.

3. Upgraded to 1.1.2
4. jailbroke the 1.1.2
5. after I entered the intaller.app, the first thing I did is I upgraded the installer
6. added installer.iclarified.com to the installer sources
7. installed BSD (SYSTEM category in installer)
8. installed OpenSSL (SYSTEM category in installer)
9. installed Term-vt100, I am not sure is this needed, but I read somewhere that it helps, so I installed it (SYSTEM category in installer)
10. I went back to the HOME SCREEN of the springboard and restarted the iphone, not sure is this step needed but I did it anyway.
11. went back to installer.app, ICLARIFIED category, selected GEOHOT UNLOCK, I followed the onscreen directions, never got the SUCCESSFULLY UNLOCKED, the phone restarted and I had my operator full signal appeared in 5 sec.
12. I went to the installer again, went to the Tweeks 1.1.2 category, installed iWorld and selected my country, the phone restarted and all worked like a charm.
Notice that I stayed at fw. 1.1.2, did not use the installer solutions to upgrade to 1.1.3 yet and I will wait for a while.
I hope this is the right place to add this post, I was confused at a few of the steps and iClarified did not mention that the BSD or any of the other packaged were needed (not sure is it updated now) so I wrote this to help others.
I want to take this opertunity to thank GEO, iClarified and all of the others for using their solutions. I donated the amount of the BLADOX TurboSim card on e.bay to the solutions I used and I am asking others to do the same.
i totally forgot to put on airplane mode while performing gunlock
now my phone is struck in DFU mode even if i tried to restore to any firmware it wont work
im on OS X
ps. my Independence warn me about missing baseband

This guide is to upgrade the baseband to 04.03.13_G for a 3.9 bootloader.

Also, if we do upgrade to 1.1.3 using the official upgrader 1.1.3-3, anysim 1.3 will have a prob with the auto-lock since the upgrader will change paths.
Furthermore, im currently having a OOTB 1.0.2 with firmware 1.1.1+jailbroken+unlocked having baseband 04.01.13_G
I know that if i unlock my iphone in 1.1.2, i will have to install iWorld since im in India.
But when i upgrade to 1.1.3 and unlock it using anysim 1.3, iWorld is not compatible with 1.1.3
So how will my baseband work in 1.1.3 without iWorld since im from India?
Finally, since there is no restore involved in this entire guide, what happens to my existing installed apps (which r quite a few) in 1.1.3?
Do (and how) i have to reinstall the apps again?
What happens to the bug of 1.1.2 of sms/phone modules crashing when receiving/sending on international numbers....in 1.1.3?
Thanx, in advance.
thanks for your reply!!!! I see that I pasted the wrong links into the FAQ... I corrected them now:
