I wonder why geohot didnt share the whole transaction...only the nck lenght doesnt help all that much though its a place to start. What would help some was to know the imei and nck so we could at least try to decelop an attempt on the algorithm. I know it could be bad for the iphone owner...

awwwww..... the real problem is how to get the 15 digit code out of 4 trials.

thats not the way to go. We have two options:
1 - find a way to test codes outside the iphone (unlikely)
2 - get all the unlock codes we can , with the respective imei and any other info that makes each iphone unique and then guess the relation that produces the correct unlock code using the imei as input for instance.

Option 2 sounds more ptomising to me. If there's a relation between the unlock code and the imei i'm sure we can find with other methods than brute force. Sure we'll need some luck but the there are more subtle ways of doing this. Even that the nck has 15 lenght and the imei also..shows us something about how this is being calculated.

For that to work we would need the nck and imei and what not but geohot didnt post those (which was ok to ptotect his source) but for this type of work a lot of the tough encryption sysyems in the past were broken by ordinary people with no training in any special subjects.
so we have a problem that is:
if we share ncks and imeis the phone owners could get screwed but more people attempting to crack the code would result in a higher probability of success on tue other hand we can have geo and his friends trying to crack it alone to protect the pgone owners which givs us less people and a lower probability.

    Have fun!

Other legal values in that field besides "NO" are "SP", "NS", "CP", and "SM"
