My Suggestion
I unlocked my phone and all worked fine, but I had a problem with ITunes telling me that I didn't have an AT&T sim and wouldn't sync anything to my phone. After spending a LOT of time searching through this forum, I came to a few conclusions. One, a lot of people are running into problems unlocking phones. Two, the volume of the posts is so large it's difficult to find something. What I think would be really helpful, at least for those that have a little expertise and are willing to work a little, would be a detailed description of how the unlock process works. When you jailbreak your phone, what files exactly are changed and why does the phone now allow applications to be added? It would make troubleshooting a problem much easier and maybe cut down on the "please help" posts. Anyone here have some inside knowledge and be willing to help post a detailed description of what is happening at each step?
In my case I finally deduced that the lockdownd file has something to do with ITunes detecting what kind of sim you have. I had replaced my original file with a new one that was in the unlock111.zip file that was linked to in one of the "ultimate unlock" guides. I finally downloaded another copy from ********** and it fixed my problem.

iNdependence + anysim = works well. done it on 2 iphones. both successful. easy to do.

For PC platform. Use CARNAVAL version 0.7 for jailbreak, activation. The new version puts anySIM 1.1 in the phone for you and you can uninstall it via Installer app when done.
