    So, is it possible to derive the true differences between itune 7.4 and previous version in that .dll? You might be able to use previous itunes with the updated .dll and once itunes gains root access, you might be able to inject code or jailbreak wiht an app disguised as the itunes helper service for instance.

    Actually this is exactly what I am hoping to do. Pass along a trojan horse of sorts via the itunes repair or sync process.

    You've probably already seen this, but the dev team thinks itunes is not likely to have much in terms helping to decrypt the firmware.

    A key within itunes 7.4 should be handed to the phone for decryption. How else would the iphone know how to decrypt the new firmware, unless the key is contained in those few unencrypted DFU files.
