Unhappy Major upgrade issues on FW 1.0.2

Hello I'm a fresh noob to this site.

I've been trying really hard to upgrade my iphone to a newer firmware (preferably 1.1.4) but to no avail.

It's a 1st generation and runs on 1.0.2 firmware. I've been trying to virginize it so that way i of course don't lock myself out of the phone feature. But there was a major problem though. Every time i opened the installer app so that I could download/install "the virginizer' it would constantly crash. I thought the quickest and easiest way to fix this would be to download a copy of 1.0.2 firmware, restore it on itunes, and start over fresh. Since then the installer app will now open up without crashing. However, the second i try installing a program it will crash again.

I read about how the iphone needs something called 'BSD subsystem' installed first before running 'the virginizer' app. Tried to install BSD but again that Installer App would crash on me. I tried transferring BSD over with iLiberty+. I think that i managed to get it installed that way, but still everything keeps crashing.

I'm having great difficulty understanding as to why this Installer is still screwing up. I figured after running a 1.0.2 restore then everything would be back to the way things were when my phone was brand new. Evidently not...

Please somebody help out if you can!

There has been some debate in the past about wether you need to virginize or not before upgrading. I have myself successfully upgraded 3 phones from 1.0.2 to 1.1.4 without virginizing. I haven't tried, but am sure you can go to 2.2 without virginizing (since it's the same baseband as 1.1.4). All you need to do is upgrade to 1.1.4 or 2.2 in iTunes then jailbreak and unlock with quickpwn or pwnage tool. It's that easy. If you're stuck on virginizing first, moderator volkspost has a long and fairly complicated tutorial that you may need to set aside a few hours to complete, but will definately work and get your phone virginized.
