Let's see...

    I have:

    Version 1.0.2 (1C28)
    Modem Firmware 04.01.13_G

Is that the version of the modem firmware which matches 1.0.2? Does anyone know?

And yes, the phone is working. Everything else (wifi, EDGE, all software) is working, too.

Additional detail: the process I used erased EVERYTHING on the phone. It wasn't the 1.1.1 upgrade which erased everything -- it was the downgrade. After the upgrade, I used one of Erica Sadun's utilities for looking in the Media folder, and sub-folders I had created were still there. After downgrading, everything is gone; it's reset back to factory state, I guess.

No, that's the firmware from 1.1.1. However, the no-phone problem only happens on phones unlocked using the dev team unlock method because it rewrites part of the seczone. So if you did not use the dev team SIM unlock, you're good to go even with the modem version mismatch.

I don't think it will downgrade your modem/bb firmware version, so you may not be able to use AnySIM to unlock it. Either way, you should be ok to downgrade it. Let us know the modem firmware version in Settings -> General -> About if you decide to do it, if it shows a version starting with 3.x, then the modem firmware (somehow) got downgraded and you should be able to unlock it if you feel lucky.

Yeah. I was just reading the dev team wiki, and they seem to have identified the state of my phone: It has the 1.0.2 OS, but the 04.01.13_G baseband firmware. Since I'm using the "Apple/AT&T approved SIM," there's no problem with the baseband. But, by using the 1.0.2 OS, I still have the advantage of being able to run all the 3rd party native apps, which is all I wanted to do in the first place

So, I'm happy... for the most part. I don't really care about the mobile iTunes music store. It would be nice to have the 1.1.1 security fixes and other miscellaneous tweaks, but I guess I'll have to wait until someone figures out how to jailbreak 1.1.1....

And here we go again: it did NOT erase everything, you still have the FW 1.1.1 baseband fw. The only reason your phone works is because you never software unlocked it.

Yes, KMAC works well. I have been trying various ways of downflashing the basband (modem firmware), nadda.

I thought this method would work that was posted on the dev team wiki since my phone was not unlocked, only bypassed activation and such, but it was not stock 1.1.1 like this dude:

    OK,

    # Dock iPhone and open iTunes, you will get a message saying you need iTunes 7.4 to activate. Just click OK.

    # Hold the Power and Menu buttons for 10 seconds until the iPhone turns off and then let go of the power button leaving only the menu button pressed.

    # iTunes will now recognize the iPhone is in restore mode although the iPhone screen will be blank.

    # Hold Shift(PC) and click the restore button and choose the 1.02 firmware. After it restores, you will get an error, just click OK.

    # If you have used DVD Johns tool, when the iPhone restarts after the restore, iTunes version 7.3.0.5 will recognize it and activate it straight away.

    # Reflash Old Modem firmware using Putty.

    (Elaborated)

Install SSH on iPhone using installer.app or ibrickr or whatever you want. In ibrickr, i created a new folder called unlock, in this folder i uploaded bbupdater, ICE03.14.08_G.eep and ICE03.14.08_G.fls.

I then used Putty to connect to the iPhone and ran the following commands,

    # chmod +x bbupdater

    # launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

    # ./bbupdater -f *.fls -e *.eep

    # launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

After doing this i got an error saying failed to download fls image, could not verify or something like that. I restarted the iPhone and did the same thing again, the exact same commands as above and this time got no error.

    7. Just use the Unlocking method of your choice, i used iBrickr and anySIM1.02

    Thats it!!"

NOTE: The above bb reflash only works on phones that have not previously been SIM unlocked.

I didn't see any reason for it not to work, so I tried, several times. still got the "failed to download fls could not verify image." So I'll wait for the dev team to come up with an unlock for the 1.1.1 BB or a bbdowngrader. I tried with and w/out the SIM.

Ah.... true. It erased all the 3rd party native apps, media, etc., though. But yes, not the BB firmware, apparently.

Kmac already is a hero. He doesn't need to make a video. Read the threads here and on the web (want more proof? google: KMAC iphone). Hundreds of people (including me) did it and it works. Thanks Kmac.

    What does this mean?......

    8) Jailbreak the phone using a decrypted 1.0.2 (it will flash all sorts of error, but stick with it)

I reverted back to 1.0.2 and have 4.02.13 modem which is my big problem.
I hooked up with AT&T and it only works with 4.02.13 and I can't jailbreak or hack 4.02.13. I never unlocked this phone - just tricked it to work as an iPod Touch with another iPhone AT&T SIM.

Independence isn't even launching but I think Jailbreaking it here won't revert my baseband to 4.01.13 or 3.whatever.

???? I'm seriously going to start crying soon.
